HR Generalist
Location: Downtown Los Angeles
Schedule: fully onsite | Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Duration: temp-to-hire
Salary: $30/hr-$35/hr
Job Description: Supporting the HR department/~170 employees with benefits administration, compliance, compensation, talent acquisition, and employee relations, ensuring HR operations are efficient, accurate, and compliant with California and federal employment laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Benefits & Leave Administration
* Serve as primary liaison the organization's benefits broker, to manage health, dental, vision, HSA, and retirement plans.
* Administer benefits using Paychex, ensuring timely and accurate enrollment, changes, and terminations.
* Coordinate monthly new hire enrollments and annual open enrollment processes.
* Conduct biweekly audits to ensure accurate payroll deductions and vendor payments.
* Advise managers and employees on eligibility and type of leave available, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA, FEHA, bereavement leave, sick leave, and other applicable statutory or organizational leave policies.
* Track leave status and ensure updates are obtained at least every 30 days for employees who have not yet returned to work.
Workers' Compensation & Accommodations
* Collaborate with managers to ensure timely reporting of workplace injuries and receipt of incident details.
* Submit completed forms and documentation to the third-party claims administrator.
* Support the HR Director in managing the workers' compensation process by handling day-to-day claims coordination, documentation, and communication.
* Maintain compliance with California workers' compensation laws and internal protocols.
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
* Support the recruitment process by assisting with new hire orientation, particularly benefits education and documentation, in the absence of the recruiter
* Provide backup coverage for the recruiter during absences, including onboarding tasks and benefits-related training
* Assist the Payroll Manager with electronic onboarding and payroll setup through the Paychex Flex system when needed
Compliance & HR Operations
* Ensure HR practices comply with California labor laws, federal regulations (FMLA, ACA, ERISA), and nonprofit standards.
* Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in accordance with HIPAA and EEOC guidelines.
Employee Relations
* Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees seeking guidance on workplace concerns, policies, or interpersonal issues.
* Address employee grievances with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality, escalating complex or sensitive matters to the HR Director as appropriate.
* Support the HR Director in employee relations matters by conducting initial fact-finding, gathering documentation, and assisting with follow-up actions related to complaints, performance issues, or policy violations.
