Position Summary

Vista Health System is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to assigned departments. This role supports a broad range of HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, onboarding, compensation and benefits, performance management, payroll support, compliance, and workforce initiatives.

The HR Generalist will play a critical role in fostering a positive employee experience, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting organizational goals through effective HR practices.


Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations & Engagement

  • Serve as a consultant to leaders and employees on HR-related matters
  • Support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and retention strategies
  • Assist in workplace investigations and resolution of employee concerns
  • Contribute to employee survey action planning and engagement strategies

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Lead full-cycle recruitment to ensure timely and effective hiring
  • Partner with leadership to develop annual recruitment strategies
  • Coordinate and facilitate new employee orientation and onboarding processes

Compensation, Benefits & Payroll

  • Assist with market analysis and ensure internal/external pay equity
  • Support benefits education, enrollment, and administration in collaboration with benefits specialists
  • Maintain working knowledge of benefit programs and applicable laws
  • Support payroll processes, including auditing time records, assisting with payroll preparation, and ensuring accuracy of employee pay
  • Partner with payroll and finance teams to resolve discrepancies, manage adjustments, and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws
  • Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and payroll processes

Performance Management & Development

  • Assist in developing job descriptions and performance standards
  • Support performance improvement plans and coaching strategies
  • Coordinate and facilitate employee training and development programs

Leave of Absence & Workers' Compensation

  • Administer and track leave of absence programs including FMLA
  • Coordinate workers' compensation cases and ensure proper documentation and compliance
  • Partner with leadership on return-to-work strategies

Compliance & Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate employee records in compliance with HR, OSHA, and regulatory standards
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state (Illinois), and healthcare-specific regulations
  • Manage required logs and documentation, including I-9s, OSHA records, payroll-related records, and credential tracking

HR Operations

  • Support policy development, implementation, and compliance
  • Manage employee separations, including final pay coordination and offboarding processes
  • Lead or participate in HR projects aligned with organizational goals
  • Deliver clear and effective employee communications

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive HR generalist experience
  • Prior experience in recruitment, employee relations, and payroll support preferred
  • Healthcare experience preferred

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of HR laws and regulations, including FMLA, wage and hour laws, and Illinois employment law
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong technology aptitude preferred
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based with frequent sitting and occasional standing or walking
  • May interact with patients and clinical environments
  • Ability to manage emergency or urgent HR situations as needed
  • May require travel to local clinics and job fairs
