Overview

Our client, a privately held U.S. medical device manufacturer with more than thirty years in operation and a meaningful international footprint, is seeking a sole-charge HR Manager to join their team. Recognized as a leader within a specialized segment of the orthotics and prosthetics industry, the company is known for its proprietary material technology and an extensive intellectual property portfolio.

This position sits within a hands-on manufacturing environment of roughly 125 employees and serves as the company's dedicated HR resource. The remit spans every functional area of human resources — compliance, payroll, employee relations, and safety among them. Partnering closely with senior leadership, the HR Manager will help embed structure, consistency, and a people-first mindset across a growing organization.

The workforce is notably stable and long-tenured, and the culture genuinely encourages individuals to shape their roles around their strengths. This is a real opportunity to build something enduring rather than simply keep things ticking over.

The right person blends authentic warmth with the discipline to uphold confidentiality and regulatory standards without compromise. If variety appeals to you, if you do your best work in environments where no two days repeat themselves, and if you take pride in making a workplace genuinely function for the people in it, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the sole point of contact for all HR matters across a manufacturing workforce of approximately 125 employees
  • Oversee end-to-end recruitment and onboarding, including liaison with external agencies and management of work authorization and visa-related requirements
  • Lead a comprehensive review and remediation of existing HR documentation, compliance records, and regulatory filings as an early priority
  • Manage employee benefits administration in full, including the company's retirement savings plan
  • Administer all payroll functions, bonus calculations, and compensation plans, ensuring accuracy across weekly, monthly, and annual pay cycles
  • Address employee relations matters — including conflict resolution, disciplinary processes, and sensitive interpersonal issues — with professionalism and considered judgment
  • Maintain full OSHA compliance, covering incident reporting, safety training, on-site safety meetings, and regulatory certifications
  • Serve as Training Process Owner within the company's quality management system (ISO/FDA framework)
  • Complete government compliance reporting, keep the employee handbook current, and ensure adherence to all applicable employment laws
  • Partner with the management team on workforce development, training initiatives, and employee engagement
  • Keep accurate employee records, job descriptions, performance reviews, and department documentation
  • Contribute to annual inventory and support operational projects as required

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Strong command of U.S. employment law, OSHA regulations, and HR compliance obligations
  • At least three years in a generalist or manager-level HR position within a manufacturing, production, or similarly regulated setting
  • Confident working as a standalone HR function — self-directed, resourceful, and willing to take initiative
  • Track record of administering payroll, bonus arrangements, and compensation programs
  • Capable of meeting the background check requirements that apply to this position
  • Working proficiency across the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Direct experience navigating employee relations matters, including documentation, disciplinary action, and conflict resolution
  • Strong interpersonal instincts, with a knack for building trust across every level of the organization while preserving appropriate professional boundaries
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a consistent record of maintaining accurate, current HR records
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with complete discretion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ISO or FDA quality management systems and the maintenance of training records within those frameworks
  • A bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • Background in a medical device, life sciences, or healthcare-adjacent manufacturing setting
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification
  • Experience with workers' compensation claims and OSHA 300 log reporting
  • Prior experience supporting employees through visa and work authorization processes

Benefits

Base salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per year

Performance bonuses: paid weekly, monthly, and annually

Retirement: Simple IRA with employer contribution

Paid time off: 5 days after 6 months; an additional 5 days after 12 months; increasing by 10 days per year up to 5 years of service
