NexGen Research is a growing multisite clinical research organization conducting Phase I–IV clinical trials across multiple therapeutic areas. As we continue to expand, we are developing a corporate and shared-services presence in Columbus, Ohio.

We are seeking an experienced, highly organized, and hands-on HR & People Operations Manager to help lead recruitment and manage day-to-day human resources operations across our growing organization.

This is a part-time position averaging approximately 25–30 hours per week, with the potential to expand as the organization grows.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently, building scalable HR processes, and personally managing recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, benefits coordination, performance management, and HR administration.

Key ResponsibilitiesRecruiting & Talent Acquisition

  • Own recruitment from job posting through accepted offer
  • Draft and post job descriptions across Indeed and other recruiting platforms
  • Review resumes and applications
  • Conduct initial candidate screening and interviews
  • Coordinate hiring-manager and leadership interviews
  • Manage candidate communications and interview scheduling
  • Maintain organized recruiting pipelines across multiple open positions
  • Develop screening questions and interview scorecards
  • Coordinate reference checks and pre-employment requirements
  • Prepare and coordinate employment offers
  • Track open positions, candidate status, and time-to-fill
  • Help implement and manage an applicant tracking system
  • Develop efficient recruiting workflows and automation where appropriate

The organization recruits for a variety of roles, including clinical research, operations, regulatory, quality, administrative, accounting, and corporate positions.

Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Coordinate new-hire onboarding from accepted offer through orientation
  • Ensure completion of employment documents, confidentiality agreements, policies, and required forms
  • Maintain onboarding checklists
  • Coordinate system-access and training requirements with relevant departments
  • Maintain organized personnel records
  • Coordinate employee departures and offboarding
  • Ensure company property is returned and system access is appropriately terminated

HR Administration & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee files
  • Support compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws
  • Maintain and update HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook
  • Maintain employment documentation and employee status records
  • Assist with leave administration, including FMLA and other applicable leave programs
  • Maintain documentation related to employee relations, disciplinary actions, and performance concerns
  • Help establish consistent HR processes across multiple company locations

Employee Relations & Manager Support

  • Serve as a resource for employees and managers regarding HR matters
  • Assist managers with employee performance concerns, coaching, documentation, and corrective action
  • Help resolve workplace concerns professionally and consistently
  • Support a respectful, accountable, and high-performing workplace culture
  • Identify recurring employee or organizational issues and recommend solutions

Performance Management

  • Coordinate probationary and periodic performance reviews
  • Support 30-, 60-, and 90-day employee evaluations where appropriate
  • Coordinate annual or periodic performance-review cycles
  • Help managers develop clear performance expectations
  • Maintain documentation related to performance improvement plans and corrective actions

Benefits & Payroll Coordination

  • Coordinate employee enrollment and changes involving medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other benefits
  • Support annual open enrollment
  • Serve as an internal liaison between employees and benefit administrators
  • Coordinate employee payroll changes with accounting/payroll teams
  • Help resolve employee questions regarding compensation, deductions, or benefits
  • Maintain accurate employee status information across HR and payroll systems

HR Systems & Reporting

  • Help implement and manage HRIS, applicant tracking, onboarding, and performance-management systems
  • Maintain standardized HR workflows and checklists
  • Develop basic HR dashboards and reporting for:
  • Open positions
  • Hiring pipeline
  • Headcount
  • Turnover
  • Onboarding status
  • Performance reviews
  • Outstanding HR action items
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive HR and recruiting tasks

Organizational Scope

This position supports employees across multiple locations and business functions.

Our workforce includes clinical research professionals, clinical staff, administrative personnel, corporate/shared-services team members, and remote employees.

The HR & People Operations Manager will work closely with executive leadership and department managers while serving as the primary owner of day-to-day HR operations.

QualificationsRequired

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive HR experience
  • Strong recruiting and talent-acquisition experience
  • Experience personally managing recruitment from job posting through offer
  • Experience with onboarding and employee records
  • Working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Experience handling employee relations and performance-management documentation
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong judgment and discretion when handling confidential information
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel

Preferred

  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification
  • Experience in healthcare, clinical research, life sciences, or medical practices
  • Experience supporting a multisite organization
  • Experience with applicant tracking systems or HRIS platforms
  • Experience with Gusto or similar payroll/HR software
  • Benefits-administration experience
  • Experience helping build or scale an HR function
  • Experience supporting employees across multiple states

Schedule & Work Location

This position will be based in the Columbus, Ohio area and will operate on a hybrid schedule.

The anticipated workload is approximately 25–30 hours per week.

Some flexibility in scheduling is available, but the successful candidate should be available during normal business hours for employee, candidate, and management needs.

Regular in-person presence in Columbus will be expected.

Occasional travel to company locations in Lima, Ohio and Fort Wayne, Indiana will be required.

This role may expand in hours and responsibility as the organization continues to grow.
