SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to and works under the general supervision of Program/Education Manager who assigns duties and reviews work for effectiveness according to established work standards.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of the work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide guidance and recommendations to teaching staff to promote high quality classroom management and positive child interactions.

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide coaching for preschool education staff using a reflective practice model. Conducts classroom observations. Discusses analysis of child outcomes data. Provides coaching for staff to improve teacher/child interactions and child outcomes towards school readiness. Provides instructional support to teachers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/ DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Possess and demonstrates strong working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and other regulations

  • Possess and demonstrates working knowledge of evidence-based curricula (Creative Curriculum, Second Step, Zoophonics) used at CSC Head Start and can articulate their importance

  • Strong knowledge of theories and practices of Early Childhood Education/Development typically gained via experience and/or education.

  • Support overall information sharing and understanding of CSCHS policies, procedures and practices

  • Participates in formal classroom observations using evidence-based observation tools, such as CLASS, Creative Curriculum-The Fidelity Tool, and TPOT. Maintains annual reliability certification for these observation tools as required.

  • Supports implementation of Pyramid Model Practices and social emotional teaching strategies to support and increase positive child outcomes

  • Analyzes program data such as CLASS scores and TPOT data to inform coaching priorities.

  • Conduct observations of teaching staff and of their interactions with children and families to create opportunities for discussion.

  • Implements Practice-Based Coaching (PBC) including shared goals, action planning, focused observation, reflection and feedback cycles.

  • Provide feedback in a supportive, instructive and non-judgmental way.

  • Work with teaching staff to develop individualized goals and objectives. Provide ongoing assessment to monitor staffs progress implementing goals and objectives.

  • Document and maintain records of all coaching sessions program-wide.

  • Evaluate progress and effectiveness of coaching and training program-wide

  • Prepares and submits reports and information to Program/Education Manager and/or Program Director periodically

  • Consistently maintains and promotes excellence in service through open and honest relationships with co-workers, clients, community members and other CSC staff.

  • Consistently addresses clients, community members and co-workers in a courteous, pleasant and respectful manner.

  • Consistently demonstrates respect for the capabilities and cultural differences of co-workers and the public.

  • Participates as a member of the annual program Self Assessment.

  • Maintains regular job attendance and adherence to working hours.

  • Accepts and performs other work as assigned.

  • Regular attendance and punctuality is a requirement of this position.

  • Demonstrate a professional and courteous manner and an ability to work harmoniously with other employees, clients and the general public.

  • Follow agency personnel and safety procedures.

  • Drive defensively to CSC office locations and community partners businesses or to client locations as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Baccalaureate or advanced degree in early childhood education, or baccalaureate or advance degree and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with minimum one year experience teaching preschool-aged children required. Prior Head Start experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have the demonstrated ability to facilitate the activities of others, provide training, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess and maintain a valid Oregon driver's license, Food Handler's certification, First Aid/CPR certifications, and health verification. Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) Observer and TPOT Observer certification required or obtained within three months of hire. Annual CLASS and TPOT Observer recertification required. Trained in Practice Based Coaching or obtain training within four months of hire. Knowledge of PBIS and Conscious Discipline. Employment subject to enrollment in Oregon Child Care Division Central Background Registry.

Must pass a criminal history background investigation; however a conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from this classification.

Typically exposed to office noises and interruptions such as printers, phones, and students. Ability to manage physically active children ages 3 - 5, within weight range of up to 50 pounds, including restraining, guiding, pursuing, withstanding sudden movement. Ability to bend, stoop and lift or move frequently.
