The High School Tennis Coach is responsible for organizing, developing, and leading a competitive and educational tennis program that promotes student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and academic success. The coach will provide instruction in fundamental and advanced tennis skills while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices and conditioning sessions
Teach proper tennis fundamentals, techniques, rules, and strategies
Develop individual and team improvement plans
Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development
Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team events
Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and athletic department staff
Monitor academic progress and encourage academic success among student-athletes
Maintain compliance with school, conference, district, and state athletic association rules and regulations
Coordinate match schedules, transportation, equipment, uniforms, and facility needs
Maintain and inventory tennis equipment and uniforms
Assist with offseason training opportunities and player development
Promote the tennis program within the school and community
Attend required athletic department meetings and professional development opportunities
Model professionalism, integrity, and positive behavior at all times.
Qualifications
Previous tennis coaching and/or playing experience preferred
Knowledge of tennis fundamentals, rules, and match strategy
Ability to motivate and communicate effectively with high school student-athletes
Strong organizational and leadership skills
CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain
Completion of all required state and district coaching certifications
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required during the season
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and move for extended periods of time
Ability to demonstrate tennis skills and drills
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to lift and carry equipment related to team activities
Terms of Employment
Seasonal stipend position
Length of season determined by district and athletic association guidelines
Compensation based on district-approved coaching salary schedule
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal in accordance with district procedures.
