High School Tennis Coach

Position Summary
The High School Tennis Coach is responsible for organizing, developing, and leading a competitive and educational tennis program that promotes student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and academic success. The coach will provide instruction in fundamental and advanced tennis skills while fostering a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices and conditioning sessions
- Teach proper tennis fundamentals, techniques, rules, and strategies
- Develop individual and team improvement plans
- Promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and character development
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, and team events
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and athletic department staff
- Monitor academic progress and encourage academic success among student-athletes
- Maintain compliance with school, conference, district, and state athletic association rules and regulations
- Coordinate match schedules, transportation, equipment, uniforms, and facility needs
- Maintain and inventory tennis equipment and uniforms
- Assist with offseason training opportunities and player development
- Promote the tennis program within the school and community
- Attend required athletic department meetings and professional development opportunities
- Model professionalism, integrity, and positive behavior at all times.
Qualifications
- Previous tennis coaching and/or playing experience preferred
- Knowledge of tennis fundamentals, rules, and match strategy
- Ability to motivate and communicate effectively with high school student-athletes
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Completion of all required state and district coaching certifications
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required during the season
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move for extended periods of time
- Ability to demonstrate tennis skills and drills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry equipment related to team activities
Terms of Employment
- Seasonal stipend position
- Length of season determined by district and athletic association guidelines
- Compensation based on district-approved coaching salary schedule
Evaluation
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal in accordance with district procedures.
