Normal Work Hours and Days:Regularly scheduled during the work season, approximately from April to November 6 days a week 12 hours days. Hours, start time, and days worked may vary depending on workload and seasonal project needs. Mandatory overtime based on seasonal workload and remote work settings. Frequent travel to remote projects sites, requiring long days/hours.

Summary:
Help coordinated compliance with all applicable Health, Safety & Environmental HSE) related requirements (federal, state, local, and company). Ensure that appropriate safety data/information is collected, maintained, and processed and that trends are identified, reported to management and followed up on. Assist with field safety audits, HSE/regulatory compliance, and training/orientation and incident response.
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain HSE training files and records, safety audit files, incident reports, etc.
  • Update and maintain site emergency plans, contacts.
  • Collect AHAs, critical lift plans and BBS observations. Identify and document trends, inform appropriate parties and track follow up.
  • Maintain MSDS documentation.
  • Maintain necessary inventory of PPE appropriate for current operations.
  • Conduct facility audits quarterly/monthly and follow up on deficiencies.
  • Advise management on performance deficiencies of field personnel or field practices and areas for improvement.
  • Counsel and advice employees and managers on unsafe behaviors and incidents.
  • Advise staff on company, client and regulatory HSE standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with client safety representatives.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientations and assist supervisors with short service employee program.
  • Coordinate and or conduct site safety training (internal or external) including OSHA 10 HR topics, rigging, crane operator, first aid/CPR, aerial lift, and forklift/loader.
  • Coordinate site online training programs.
  • Issue and instruct new hires on proper use of Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings.
  • Participate or assist with drug and alcohol program, including scheduling and coordination of random and post-accident employee drug testing.
  • Collect all incident report documentation and forward to HSE and Site Managers. Assist supervisors in completing documentation as needed.
  • Participates in the collection of information, determination of cause, and documentation of post incident investigations.
  • Provide technical assistance with emergency response (spills, injuries, equipment damage) as necessary.
  • Assist with injury case management, light duty assignment, etc.
  • Assist with maintaining site emergency equipment (annual fire extinguisher inspections, first aid equipment, spill kits, etc.).
Other Tasks:
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • Assist Project Manager/Operations Manager, as requested.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably can also perform other tasks satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in a safety role and two years oil & gas/construction industry experience, and Mine site (MSHA) or combination thereof
  • Must possess a valid state driver license
Preferred:
  • Knowledge of MSHA, OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations
  • MSHA Blue card holder
  • MSHA certification
  • Extensive familiarity with trucking and crane operations and industry standards
  • OSHA 510 or 511 Training
  • Fall Protection competent person training
  • Qualified Rigger training
  • Aerial Lift train-the-trainer course
  • HAZWOPER, DOT HAZMAT
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the practical application of construction engineering and technology.
  • Basic office computer skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Strong problem solving abilities and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Highly organized and strong time management abilities.
  • Knowledge of management principles involved in planning, resource allocation and production methods and the ability to apply in overseeing remote construction project activities.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, policies, procedures, and strategies to ensure environment and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply first aid.
  • Ability to see and record written data and information.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
  • Ability to wear protective clothing.
  • Ability to work long days/hours and in adverse weather conditions.
