Summary: The Alaska Fleet Representative supports Alaska engagement by serving as a key connection between fleet participants, the Government Affairs team, the Fisheries Innovation team, Sales team and Trident Communications team. This role contributes to strategy, messaging, and online and in-person outreach related to Alaska fisheries matters, with a particular focus on fleet-facing engagement, external communications, and fisheries innovation initiatives (especially projects related to bycatch reduction).  

Key Responsibilities 

Public Affairs Support 

  • Work with Government Affairs teams to support the development of briefing materials, talking points, presentations, and other content for forward-facing and indirect communications. 
  • Engage (online and in-person) in strategic communications efforts, determined in partnership with Government Affairs and Alaska Operations fleet leadership, focused on educating the public about the pollock fishing industry.  
  • Work with the Government Affairs team to analyze internal and external research related to bycatch and habitat reduction.  

Fleet & Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Serve as a liaison between fleet participants and internal teams on Alaska fisheries and government affairs topics. 
  • Build and maintain relationships with independent fishermen, fleet leaders, and community stakeholders. 
  • Represent the company at Alaska fisheries meetings, industry conferences, trade association events, Sales engagements and outreach forums. 

Fisheries Innovation & Bycatch Reduction 

  • Work with the Fisheries Innovation Team to support fisheries innovation initiatives, with an emphasis on bycatch reduction strategies and projects. 
  • Help gather fleet feedback and operational insights to inform innovation efforts and continuous improvement. 

Communications & Outreach 

  • Support alignment of fleet-facing messaging with broader public affairs, sustainability, and government relations strategies. 
  • Contribute to development and coordination of outreach materials and follow-up communications resulting from fisheries events and meetings. 

Travel & On-the-Ground Support 

  • Travel up to six weeks per year to Alaska to support fisheries events, fleet engagement, innovation activities, and customer needs. 
  • Provide on-the-ground support during key Alaska fisheries seasons and priority meetings.

 

This is a salaried exempt position with an annualized salary range of $90,000 to $100,000.

Minimum Requirements 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • 2 year's experience with working knowledge of Alaska fisheries, fleet operations, or fisheries management environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex topics clearly and effectively. 
  • Proven ability to build trust and credibility with fishermen and external stakeholders. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel to Alaska. 

Preferred 

  • Experience supporting fisheries innovation, sustainability initiatives, or bycatch reduction efforts. 
  • Familiarity with fisheries regulatory bodies, trade associations, or industry-led innovation programs. 
  • Background working directly with fishing fleets or seafood industry stakeholders. 

Work environment (includes travel/on-call):

Ability to travel to various locations, including remote Alaska. When not travelling, this is position is based onsite at the Trident Office in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood, with the possibility of remote work on Fridays.

While performing the duties of this job in Alaska, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
