JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Assumes responsibility for care of patients under the supervision, direction and guidance of a Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse. Participates in assessment of patient needs. Communicates with and functions as a member of the health care team. Provides basic, direct patient care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital. Participates in patient teaching to the degree consistent with the NAC’s scope of practice. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to function on the unit. Participates in hospital wide and department specific performance improvement activities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Requires active Washington State Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) license, current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and active/unencumbered driver’s license. Previous experience in a behavioral health setting strongly preferred.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse, the ability to participate in the implementation of the interdisciplinary patient plan of care. Ability to organize and prioritize a patient assignment and unit activities. Ability to document to unit standards for specific substance use disorder patient population. Competent in all identified department specific orientation and annual competencies, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment as instructed. Ability to safely use equipment specific to the Recovery Center work environment and patient populations. Effective written and verbal interpersonal communication skills with multidisciplinary team members, ancillary departments and clinical areas, physicians, patients and family members. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment, including personal computer, photocopier, multi-line telephone and facsimile machine. Ability to identify processes and procedures to improve work processes.
ENVIRONMENT / HAZARDS AND COMPLIANCE
Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens. Risk of exposure to communicable disease, blood and body fluids. Risk of physical injury from lifting patients and operation of equipment. Complies with manager’s instructions and hospital policies regarding reporting injuries and hazards/hazardous conditions and attends safety training as required. Works in a safe manner at all times by using appropriate protective equipment and maintains personal protective equipment as instructed. Participates in health and safety initiatives.
