Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Human Resources Generalist-Benefits (HRG-Benefits) is responsible for performing Human Resources (HR) related professional level and works closely with the Senior Human Resources Manager (SHRM) in supporting HR objectives that will provide an employee oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas:  benefits administration, compensation administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment, /employment issues, affirmative action, and employment law and compliance, which may also include planning, coordinating, and implementing HR functions for clinical, non-clinical, and management/executive level positions, under the direction of the SHRM.

Position Specific Performance Expectations:

 

  • Administers various human resources plans and procedures for all personnel.
  • Participates in developing and implementing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Meets regularly with the SHRM to discuss the organization's goals/strategies, activities, opportunities, and obstacles, and how HR can assist in these areas.
  • Tracks and verifies all invoices and funds spent on HR activities, including benefits and departmental expenses, etc.
  • Assists with administering the compensation program and performance management program, including processing and monitoring performance evaluations, and revisions as necessary.
  • Oversees benefits administration in partnership as directed by the SHRM, including plan review, benefit recommendations, claims resolution, change reporting, invoicing, billing/claim discrepancies, and communicating benefits information to employees.
  • Assists with development and reporting of required items, including affirmative action plan, EEO-1 and EEO-4 and other annual reports including maintain records, reports, and logs to confirm to regulations.
  • Handles employee relations including coaching, counseling, and guiding employees and managers.
  • Responds to employee relations issues including employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data, and makes recommendations to the SHRM for corrective action and continuous improvement. Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to continually improve the department’s efficiency and service level.
  • Maintains Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) electronic and paper files for all employees, students, travelers, volunteers and contractors.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefit laws and regulations.
  • Completes accurate employment paperwork and maintains employee records, including creation and management of all paperwork for employee files including checklists, Personnel Action Forms (PAFs), onboarding, correspondence, work orders, etc.
  • Coordinates and presents new employee orientation and assists management with onboarding in partnership with the Human Resources Team and Marketing Department.
  • Maintains effective communication regarding new hires, employment changes, and terminated employees within the organization.
  • Works with the HR team to ensure a smooth onboarding and employment process for candidates, new hires, and existing employees.
  • Manages benefit enrollment process for MRH staff, including new enrollments, qualifying events, and terminations. Ensures all enrollments are completed on time and processed correctly. Notify appropriate vendors and maintain accurate records as needed.
  • Serves as a direct liaison between employees and benefit plan companies to ensure a smooth process for employees to gain information or resolve conflicts.
  • Processes paperwork and changes for employees including annual merit increases, special market increases, and annual structure adjustments. Validates for policy compliance and accuracy.
  • Assists with compensation structure for employees, including completing salary surveys as needed and reviews/recommends updates as needed in partnership with HR Leadership.
  • Manages Worker’s Compensation Insurance and safety program for Memorial Regional Health with support from the HR Leadership.
  • Manages employee leaves including the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Public Health Emergency Leave (PHEL), and/or any other mandatory Local/State/Federal leave requirements for employees with support from the HR Leadership.
  • Manages monthly random drug screening program with support from the HR Leadership.
  • Oversees Performance Management and annual performance appraisal process with support from the HR Leadership.
  • Manages Employee Relations issues for the organization, including direct employee coaching and management training, with support from the HR Leadership and the HR team.
  • Completes internal investigations for relevant issues as required, at the direction of the HR Leadership team.
  • Manages and organizes multiple concurrent projects, efficiently organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments/projects, and deliverables with minimal direct supervision. 
  • Applies working knowledge of HR practices, healthcare practices, and local/state/federal regulations to as needed to complete work.
  • Reads and understands, interprets, and communicates complicated policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Proactively directs work and problem solves issues that arise with guidance from the HR Leadership.
  • Uses emotional maturity to analyze and resolve challenging situations with a calm and professional manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality, uses tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines to complete work assignments.

  • Participates in special projects as requested by the SHRM.
  • Responsible for providing employees proper access to HRIS system.
  • Serves as backup for other team members in the HR Department when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Occasional weekend work to support special events.

Qualifications:                                           

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions with a valid driver’s license).
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete employee health meeting.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred.
    Education/Licensure/Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business or human resources profession preferred.
    • Human Resources Certification, PHR, or SHRM-CP preferred.
    Experience:
    • 3-5 years’ experience in human resources and staffing/recruitment preferred.
    • Healthcare Human Resources experience highly preferred.
    Skills/Abilities:
    • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, additional languages encouraged.
    • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and communicate policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Superior communication skills.
    • Comprehensive HRIS and computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office applications, Database Management, and healthcare related software.
    • Must be able to work with minimum supervision, set priorities, and follow through to accomplish results.
    • Knowledge of healthcare recruiting and hospital operations.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure in an environment with ever changing priorities and multiple group dynamics.
    • Ability to manage stress appropriately, handle multiple priorities and make decisions under pressure.
    • Committed to collaboration, working to build consensus and alignment.

     

    Position Classification:  Exempt 

    Compensation Range:  $66,726.40 to $100,089.60
