Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist ensures that the Survivor Empowerment Center employees are being nurtured and supported through the creation and management of programs, policies, and procedures, and by fostering a positive work environment through effective employee-employer relations. This role reports directly to the Executive Director.


The Human Resources Generalist analyzes HR data and handles a wide variety of departmental issues, including staffing, employee relations, compensation, training, employment, labor relations, safety, affirmative action and employment equity programs, and personnel research. The person in this role also advises employee and management personnel on the interpretation of personnel policies, programs, and procedures which contribute to the overall efficiency of the Survivor Empowerment Center.


Essential Functions

  1. Manage job recruitment, selection and promotion
    • Assist with job postings and application reviews
    • Manage internal applications
    • Assist with interviewing process
    • Create offer letters and manage background checks
    • Provide orientation programs for new hires
  2. Develop and oversee employee benefits and wellness programs
    • Ensure employees are timely notified of enrollment eligibility
    • Manage online enrollments
    • Reconcile and approve invoices for payment
  3. Develop, promote and enforce personnel policies
    • Ensure Employee Handbook is legally compliant
    • Provide guidance regarding disciplinary actions
    • Manage employee advocacy and conflict resolution
    • Perform exit interviews and manage return of property
  4. Promote employee career development and job training
    • Ensure required training is completed and documented
  5. Develop and oversee employee compensation
    • Assist with bi-weekly Payroll processing
    • Perform job analysis and manage job descriptions
  6. Develop and oversee employee performance reviews
  7. Serve as the primary contact for work-site injuries and accidents
  8. Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly and annual reports for grants and audits
    • Including ICASA, ICADVA, DHA, VAWA and VOCA programs
  9. Prepare HR Summary reports for Board meetings
  10. Create and maintain HR SOPs for functional continuity
  11. Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.



Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resource management or related field preferred, and minimum five (5) years' experience in a generalist role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of
    • various computer programs (Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office, Internet, and database systems)
    • basic office equipment (copier, adding machine, fax, etc.)
  • Strong people and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and give attention to detail
  • Skills in basic administrative duties including typing and filing
  • Ability to
    • communicate orally in conversation both in person and by telephone

  • Demonstrated commitment to people and non-violence through previous volunteer work or employment preferred.
  • Willingness to complete required 64-hours of training within 6-months of employment
  • Must have reliable transportation and applicable insurance
    • 5% of the work period is spent traveling (fundraising events, general errands).
