Job Description

Benefits:
  • Company parties
  • Competitive salary
  • Opportunity for advancement
  • Paid time off

HomeWell Care Services is seeking an experienced Human Resources Generalist to take an active role in recruiting, employee relations, performance management, compliance, onboarding, payroll, and day-to-day HR operations.

This is not an entry-level HR position.

The ideal candidate has several years of hands-on human resources experience and is comfortable independently managing employee issues, advising management, recruiting in a high-volume environment, documenting corrective action, and navigating California employment requirements.

This position requires someone who can move beyond administrative HR support and exercise sound professional judgment when handling real-world employee situations.

Key Responsibilities

Recruiting & Workforce Management

  • Manage full-cycle recruiting from job posting through hire.
  • Recruit, screen, interview, and evaluate candidates.
  • Maintain an active candidate pipeline for high-volume caregiver hiring.
  • Improve recruiting sources, screening methods, interview processes, and candidate quality.
  • Coordinate background checks, employment documentation, and pre-employment requirements.
  • Monitor staffing needs and proactively recruit ahead of anticipated demand.
  • Track recruiting metrics, including applicant volume, qualified candidates, interviews, hires, turnover, and source effectiveness.
Employee Relations

  • Serve as a primary HR resource for employees and management.
  • Address employee complaints, attendance issues, workplace conflicts, policy violations, and performance concerns.
  • Conduct and document employee-relations investigations.
  • Prepare and administer coaching, written warnings, performance improvement plans, and other corrective actions.
  • Assist management with difficult employee conversations and termination decisions.
  • Maintain accurate and defensible documentation of employee-relations matters.
California HR Compliance

  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable California and federal employment requirements.
  • Help ensure compliance with wage-and-hour requirements, meal and rest periods, overtime, sick leave, leaves of absence, workplace policies, and required documentation.
  • Maintain compliant personnel records and employee files.
  • Assist with unemployment claims, workers’ compensation matters, leaves of absence, and employment verification.
  • Identify potential compliance concerns and escalate significant risks to leadership when appropriate.
Onboarding & Offboarding

  • Manage the employee onboarding process.
  • Ensure required documentation, background checks, orientation, training, and employment requirements are completed.
  • Maintain accurate employee records within company HR/payroll systems.
  • Manage employee separations and offboarding documentation.
  • Coordinate final-pay and termination processes with management and payroll.
Performance Management

  • Support managers in addressing employee performance and conduct issues.
  • Develop appropriate documentation and corrective-action plans.
  • Track performance issues through resolution.
  • Help management distinguish between coaching, corrective action, and termination situations.
HR Administration

  • Maintain personnel files and HR documentation.
  • Assist with payroll and employee-record changes.
  • Maintain HR reports and metrics.
  • Review existing HR processes and recommend improvements.
  • Assist leadership with development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of progressive, hands-on human resources experience.
  • Demonstrated experience handling employee relations and performance-management issues.
  • Demonstrated full-cycle recruiting experience.
  • Experience independently preparing or administering corrective actions and employee documentation.
  • Working knowledge of California employment and wage-and-hour requirements.
  • Experience with employee onboarding and separations.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive employee information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound HR recommendations to management.
Strongly Preferred

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • HR Generalist, Senior HR Coordinator, HR Business Partner, or HR Manager experience.
  • Experience supporting a high-volume hourly workforce.
  • Healthcare, home care, staffing, hospitality, retail, manufacturing, or other labor-intensive industry experience.
  • Experience with California workers’ compensation, unemployment, leaves of absence, and employee investigations.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, PHRca, or similar HR certification.
  • Experience with HRIS, ATS, payroll, or workforce-management systems.
Who Will Succeed in This Position

We are looking for someone who has already handled difficult HR situations—not someone seeking their first opportunity to learn HR.

A successful candidate should be able to discuss specific examples of:

  • Handling a difficult employee-relations issue.
  • Conducting a workplace investigation.
  • Coaching a manager through a performance problem.
  • Preparing corrective-action documentation.
  • Managing an employee termination.
  • Resolving a California wage-and-hour or compliance concern.
  • Recruiting successfully in a difficult labor market.
  • Improving an HR process rather than simply administering it.
This is a hands-on position for an HR professional who enjoys building processes, solving employee issues, recruiting strong employees, and supporting a growing organization.
