Human Resources Specialist

Location: Lafayette, IN
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8 am-5 pm
Salary: Starting at $62,000 annually
Status: Full-Time 40 Hours wk | Exempt

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated, organized, and people-focused Human Resources Specialist to support a high-volume manufacturing operation. This position serves as the sole onsite Human Resources representative and is responsible for managing day-to-day HR functions while acting as a trusted resource for employees and leadership.

The HR Specialist will oversee recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, training, compliance, benefits support, and HR administration. This role requires a hands-on professional who can effectively balance employee support, operational priorities, and compliance requirements in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working independently while partnering closely with operations leadership to support workforce planning, employee engagement, retention, and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with existing staffing agency to support the sourcing, recruiting, and placement of entry-level and hourly production employees, ensuring workforce needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Conduct new hire onboarding and orientation programs to ensure successful employee integration and engagement.
  • Serve as the primary onsite HR contact for employees and managers, providing guidance and support on HR-related matters.
  • Respond to employee questions regarding benefits, payroll, policies, and workplace concerns.
  • Handle employee relations matters, conduct investigations, facilitate conflict resolution, and support corrective action processes when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
  • Coordinate and facilitate employee training, development, and engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with operations leadership to support staffing needs, workforce planning, retention efforts, and employee development.
  • Assist with performance management processes, including coaching, documentation, and performance reviews.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation, including offers, personnel files, policies, and employment-related correspondence.
  • Monitor HR metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement and employee engagement.
  • Stay current on employment law updates, HR trends, and best practices to support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Support special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Sociology, Organizational Development, Training & Development, or a related field preferred.
  • 0-3 years of Human Resources, HR Generalist, Talent Acquisition, or related experience.
  • Experience supporting employees in a manufacturing, production, industrial, or distribution environment is preferred.
  • Internship experience or professional HR experience is a plus.

Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with HRIS systems, payroll systems, and applicant tracking systems preferred.
  • Ability to utilize technology and reporting tools to support HR operations.
Language Skills
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Bilingual Spanish skills are highly desirable but not required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday.
  • Frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to conduct presentations and training sessions for employees and leadership teams.

Work Environment

This position is based within a high-volume manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with employees, supervisors, and management throughout the facility. The work environment includes both office and production-floor exposure, requiring the ability to adapt to changing priorities and support operational needs.

The noise level may vary between office and production areas, and appropriate safety requirements must be followed while on the manufacturing floor.
