Human Resources Business Partner

Keeley Companies is looking to add a Human Resources Business Partner to their People Operations team in St. Louis. The HR Business Partner serves as a trusted partner within People Operations, providing leadership and expertise across employment compliance, HR operations, and team member lifecycle administration.. This role is responsible for identifying and mitigating employment risk, strengthening HR practices and controls, and partnering with leaders to ensure consistent, compliant practices across Keeley Companies. The HR Business Partner oversees compliance related to onboarding, offboarding, leave administration, and employment practices while serving as a knowledgeable resource on company benefits programs and team member inquiries.

Primary Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted People Operations partner to leaders, providing guidance on employment practices, compliance, employee relations, benefits, and complex team member matters.
• Lead employment compliance efforts across Keeley Companies, monitoring federal, state, and local requirements and ensuring practices evolve as the organization grows into new markets and jurisdictions.
• Identify and mitigate employment risk through proactive audits, internal controls, policy and procedure updates, manager education, and recommendations to People Operations leadership.
• Oversee key employment compliance programs, including I-9/E-Verify, background screening, drug testing, FMLA, ADA accommodations, leave programs, unemployment matters, and required compliance training.
• Oversee compliance related offboarding activities, ensuring consistent execution of separation processes, final employment documentation, and adherence to applicable federal, state, and company requirements.
• Partner on compliance related items for the onboarding process; employment eligibility verification, background screening requirements, policy acknowledgments, and regulatory requirements.
• Partner on employee relations matters and investigations, ensuring consistent application of company policies, employment practices, documentation, and corrective actions.
• Support the Benefits Manager by serving as a knowledgeable resource on company-sponsored benefit programs, assisting with benefit compliance requirements, responding to escalated team member inquiries, and supporting enrollment, communication, and implementation activities as needed.
• Analyze trends, recurring issues, and operational gaps across People Operations and recommend solutions that improve compliance, efficiency, scalability, and the team member experience.
• Lead and participate in cross-functional People Operations initiatives that support organizational growth and strengthen HR practices, systems, and processes.

 Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with emphasis in employment compliance, employee relations, benefits administration, or HR operations.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Experience administering FMLA, ADA accommodations, leave programs, and I-9/E-Verify compliance.
• Experience supporting employee benefit programs, self-insured health plans, and benefit compliance activities.
• Professional certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred.
• Experience with UKG or similar HRIS platforms preferred.
