    Job Description

    TITLE: HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTOR

    STATUS: REGULAR, FULL-TIME

    FLSA: EXEMPT

    POSITION SUMMARY: Ensures company compliance related to applicable labor laws. Administers, coordinates, and evaluates human resources plans, policies, and programs. Counsels and trains department heads in human resources practices. Manages employee benefit programs.

    REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Implement and manage procedures to ensure applicable local, state, and federal labor law compliance; complete periodic reports as required to applicable agencies.
    • Comply with local, state, and federal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
    • Represent the company at hearings related to unemployment claims and labor disputes.
    • Work with department heads to fulfill company staffing objectives.
    • Guide management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicate and enforce organization values.
    • Manage employee corrective actions, periodic reviews, and annual evaluations; administer frequency and format of evaluation programs.
    • Support management by providing human resources advice and counsel; train management in coaching and discipline practices, and research and resolution of employee problems, complaints, or grievances.
    • Confer with employees on escalated harassment claims and labor disputes.
    • Work with management to update job requirements and job descriptions for all positions; assist with succession planning and job restructuring.
    • Coordinate internal cross department staffing initiatives.
    • Review local and national pay standards to assist department heads on pay structure revisions and implementation.
    • Counsel managers on job candidate selections; conduct and analyze exit interviews when appropriate.
    • Implement and manage new employee onboarding practices; conduct new hire orientation training.
    • Manage employee benefit programs; coordinate initial and annual open enrollments.
    • Interpret benefit policies and procedures to guide members in resolving questions and problems.
    • Reconcile benefits accounts by approving billing statements.
    • Assist Safety Manager in enforcing safety programs and initiatives; participate in accident/injury investigations and assist in oversight of injured worker response; work with Safety Manager and department supervisors to coordinate Return-to-Work initiatives.
    • Participate in OSHA, food safety, DHS, and Department of Labor inspections and audits.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources plus 4 years of experience, or 6 years of equivalent Human Resources experience.
    • Must be able to carefully follow written and verbal instructions and work well under pressure.
    • Must be able to accurately convey written and verbal instructions to others.
    • Must be able to work with all team levels including Executive.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Good computer (including Excel and Word) skills are required.
    • Must be able to frequently type and perform data entry for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to occasionally bend, reach, grasp small objects, and lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory is an international franchisor, confectionery manufacturer and retail operator in the United States, Canada, Philippines, Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates. The Company is based in the charming historical town of Durango located on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains in southwestern Colorado. From its 53,000 square foot factory, the Company manufactures an extensive line of premium chocolate candies and other confectionery products to supply its many franchise locations, delivered fresh by its fleet of refrigerated trucks.

    The factory typically produces approximately 300 chocolate candies and other confectionery products, using proprietary recipes developed primarily by its master candy maker. These products include many varieties of clusters, caramels, creams, meltaways, truffles and molded chocolates. Individual stores prepare a variety of caramel and candy apples, fudge, chocolate items and confections in full view of the customer using traditional cooking utensils such as copper kettles on gas-fired stoves and marble slab cooling tables.

    In 1985 the Company went public and is now traded on the NASDAQ exchange under the symbol "RMCF".
