Nature of Work

Position serves as a payroll processor under general supervision of the payroll manager, within the West Virginia Departments of Health, Health Facilities, and Human Services, Office of Shared Administration, Office of Human Resources Management. Reviews and approves employee timecards and processes payroll, utilizing the statewide payroll system. Prepares and/or reviews and reconciles insurance, retirement, workers compensation, employees compensation buy-backs, W-2 forms, adjustments to wages and labor, employment security, and state tax reports. Prepares and processes all changes affecting the payroll from pay period to pay period, within assigned accounts. Tracks all payroll changes and processes financial documents through the statewide accounting system for dismissals, interest payments, and deposits. Provides assistance and customer service to on-boarding, current, and former employees regarding payroll and benefit related inquiries. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Substitution: Candidates may substitute related experience for the required education at the rate of one (1) year of experience for thirty (30) semester hours of education.

Experience:Two (2) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional human resources, payroll, bookkeeping or accounting experience.

Substitution: Graduate coursework from a regionally accredited college or university may substitute for the required experience at the rate of one (1) year of experience for fifteen (15) semester hours of education.

Approved Special Agency Substitution: 1 year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid professional supervisory and/or management experience may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Note: A valid drivers license may be required.
