Job Duties
As the Human Resources Generalist, you will provide essential, high‑quality support to the Human Resources Manager and agency staff across core HR service areas, including compensation and classification, benefits and leave administration, and employee relations/performance management. This role serves as a front‑line resource, offering knowledgeable consultation, training, and guidance to prospective and current employees on a wide range of HR policies, processes, and best practices. You will play a key part in ensuring consistent, equitable, and customer‑focused HR service delivery throughout the agency.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience working with HR management policies, procedures, and laws, particularly related to compensation and classification, leave administration, payroll transactions, performance management, HR Reporting and employee relations. Excellent customer service and oral/written communication skills; computer proficiency using current standard office applications and automated HR information systems applications. Demonstrated ability and experience creating and conducting presentations and training, in person or virtually; to partner with internal staff, in all agency areas and levels, to best serve internal and external customers, and develop external relationships to advance the goals of HR and the agency; and to perform with a high level of integrity, trust, and responsiveness to deliver “Best in Class” customer service to internal and external clients.
Additional Considerations
Possesses professional HR certification such as SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, or SPHR
Knowledge of related laws related to FLSA, EEO, ADA, FMLA, VSDP, etc. Ability to use data to identify workforce patterns, support recommendations, and improve HR service delivery. Experience HRIS platforms, reporting tools, and digital workflows to manage tasks, analyze trends, and support decision‑making. Familiarity with Commonwealth of Virginia human resource policies, procedures and systems such as Cardinal, etc.
