Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist performs work of moderate difficulty by assisting with the daily functions and projects of the Human Resources department, including but not limited to benefits, recruitment, employee and labor relations, professional development, employee records, compensation, and job analysis and classification. Work is distinguished by the ability to provide cross coverage within the department, and help maintain internal redundancies and facilitate knowledge retention.

The generalist, on occasion, may be required to work outside the regular work schedule to assist with department/campus events.

Typical Job Functions

  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute overlapping human resources programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
  • Participate in all aspects of CEI Human Resources Services, including, personnel transactions, development or maintenance of CEI personnel-related policies and procedures, personnel record-keeping and maintenance, Workers Compensation administration in coordination with the State Insurance Fund, benefits administration in coordination with the current Insurance provider, consistent application of personnel policies and procedures, employee evaluation, application of the grievance process, contract development, hiring and onboarding processes and procedures, advice and counsel for performance management and discipline classification and compensation, communication of HR-related information to CEI staff and faculty
  • Assist with oversight of employee online training platforms
  • Research, create and present quarterly manager and employee training on current and relevant topics
  • Provide individual or group trainings for NeoEd and Ellucian/Colleague systems
  • Collaborate with employees, volunteers and affiliates of the college throughout the Onboarding and Offboarding process
  • Respond orally and in writing to requests for information from internal and external stakeholders
  • Review, research and make recommendations to streamline processes for human resource functions
  • Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings
  • Review personnel actions and employment activities for compliance with federal, state and agency rules, policies and procedures
  • Create comradery within the human resources department
  • Participate in all In-Service events for the college
  • Serve on internal and/or external committees as ambassador for both the human resources office and the college
  • Participate and/or assist with events including, benefits fair, campus open house, recruitment fairs via in-person or virtual
  • Ensure accuracy and confidentiality is maintained
  • Assist with maintenance and upgrades of current systems, and implementation of new systems
  • Take initiative to research and present new ideas to the human resources team
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience interpreting and applying laws, regulations, and policies
  • Experience counseling employees on human resource matters
  • Knowledge of human resources administration
  • Knowledge of equal employment opportunity/affirmative action concepts and legal requirements
  • Incumbent must reside in Idaho (Currently CEI doesnt sponsor visas)

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a post-secondary education environment with an in-depth understanding of the various employment classifications
  • Experience working with faculty contracts/agreements
  • Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) certification
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Sitting, standing or combination, walking, keyboarding, reaching overhead, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, gross manipulations (involves hands), squatting, stooping. Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.

Onsite work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.

Background Investigations:

Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225: Background Checks
