About the Position

This position is at Mississippi State Hospital in Rankin County. The official MSPB classification title is Human Resources Generalist II. This is a second-level human resources professional position responsible for administering agency human resources programs, policies, and procedures. Areas of responsibility may include recruitment and selection, classification, salary analysis, benefits, appointments, performance evaluation, training and development, employee engagement, and employee relations. The incumbent provides consultation and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees regarding human resources matters, including grievances, investigations, employee relations issues, policy interpretation, and related HR processes. The position may also provide limited supervision or guidance to lower-level human resources staff.

Characteristics of Work

This is second-level professional human resources work involving the administration, coordination, and application of human resources programs, policies, and procedures. The incumbent performs professional HR duties related to recruitment, selection, classification, compensation, benefits, appointments, performance management, training, employee engagement, and employee relations. Work includes advising managers, supervisors, and employees on HR matters and ensuring assigned activities are completed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and requirements.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave

Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
