THE ROLEWe are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team and help drive our continued success. This role plays an important part in supporting our customers, strengthening our business, and contributing to the long-term growth of Douglas Dynamics.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTEThe Human Resources Generalist partners with the Human Resources Manager to deliver comprehensive, compliant, and employee-focused HR services across Douglas Dynamics. This role supports and administers core HR programs including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, benefits, leave administration, safety compliance, and training. The HR Generalist serves as a trusted resource to leaders and employees while ensuring policies, practices, and programs align with company strategy, culture, and applicable employment laws.
HOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCERecruiting & Workforce Planning
- Partner with managers to understand workforce needs and ensure timely staffing for hourly and salaried roles.
- Create and post job openings internally and externally; review and qualify candidates.
- Coordinate temporary staffing with external agencies.
- Facilitate interviews, prepare offer letters, and coordinate pre-employment screenings.
- Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
HR Administration & HRIS
- Maintain accurate employee records within HRIS, timekeeping, and personnel files.
- Process employee lifecycle transactions including hires, transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with record retention requirements.
- Provide timely and accurate HR metrics and reports to HR leadership and management.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Serve as an accessible resource to employees regarding policies, practices, and workplace concerns.
- Support managers with performance development, coaching, and merit planning processes.
- Assist with employee relations investigations including complaints, policy violations, and performance issues.
- Recommend corrective actions that are fair, consistent, and compliant with company policies and employment laws.
- Provide guidance to supervisors on policy application, labor regulations, and best practices.
Benefits, Leave & Payroll Support
- Coordinate benefits administration including enrollments, changes, and Open Enrollment.
- Assist employees with benefit questions and claims issues.
- Support leave administration including FMLA, STD, LTD, jury duty, bereavement, and other leaves.
- Assist with Workers’ Compensation administration, return-to-work coordination, and injury management.
- Process employee reimbursements as needed.
Compliance, Safety & Training
- Monitor and communicate changes in federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain OSHA logs and support OSHA recordkeeping compliance.
- Coordinate required safety programs including Hearing Conservation.
- Conduct or support Anti-Harassment and Anti-Violence training annually.
- Participate in safety meetings and incident investigations as required.
Continuous Improvement & Culture
- Participate in Kaizen events, Gemba walks, operations meetings, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Support employee engagement activities, recognition, and company events.
- Maintain employee communication boards and site postings.
Leadership & Representation
- Represent the Human Resources Manager in meetings when requested.
- Provide guidance and direction to HR administrative staff as applicable.
- Participate in professional development activities including SHRM meetings and training.
Other Duties
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Follow all company safety rules and promptly report unsafe conditions.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDSEducation & Experience
- Associate degree required with 1–4 years of related experience; or
- Five to ten years of progressively responsible HR experience.
- Professional HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information.
Skills & Technology
- Strong working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing environment.
WHAT WE OFFER YOUPay range for this Salary Exempt position is $50,000-$65,000.
