HR & Safety Generalist

Our client is seeking an HR & Safety Generalist to join their manufacturing operation in Vandalia, Illinois. This role is ideal for an HR professional who enjoys being highly visible on the plant floor, building strong relationships with employees and supervisors, and supporting both human resources and safety initiatives in a manufacturing environment.
This position will partner closely with plant leadership and employees to help maintain a safe, compliant, and productive workplace.
Compensation
$65,000 - $85,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
What You'll Do
Human Resources
Support day-to-day HR operations in a 24/5 manufacturing facility
Assist with recruiting, onboarding, orientation, and employee training
Maintain HRIS records and employee data
Support attendance tracking, leave administration, and benefits communication
Respond to employee questions regarding policies, procedures, and workplace concerns
Assist with employee relations, coaching, discipline, and corrective action processes
Support union-related activities, including grievance tracking and documentation
Coordinate compliance and employee training programs
Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
Safety
Coordinate plant safety programs and initiatives
Support OSHA compliance and company safety standards
Conduct safety orientation and ongoing safety training
Assist with incident, injury, and near-miss investigations
Coordinate workers' compensation reporting and case management
Participate in safety committee meetings and safety engagement activities
Conduct safety audits and plant walkthroughs
Monitor PPE compliance and safety policy adherence
Track safety metrics and recommend improvements
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Safety, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
3+ years of HR Generalist experience within a manufacturing environment
Strong employee relations experience
Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, and HR administration
Ability to build credibility and rapport with employees and supervisors
Strong organizational and communication skills
Preferred
Union manufacturing experience
Safety program administration experience
OSHA knowledge and compliance experience
UKG experience
First Aid/CPR certification
Work Environment
Regular presence on the manufacturing floor
Ability to walk production areas throughout the day
Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, machinery, heat, and industrial materials
Must be able to wear required PPE
