Pay Range: $70,500 annually Are you an exceptionally perceptive HR professional who excels at building trust across all levels of an organization? We are seeking an HR Generalist with a deep specialization in Employee Relations (ER) and Union Labor Relations to serve as a dedicated consultant and coach for our regional managers. This hybrid role is based in San Diego, CA and will support our East Coast Region. You will balance core HR operational administration with extensive, hands-on conflict resolution, workplace investigations, and multi-state compliance oversight. Acting as a neutral advocate, you will independently lead investigations, proactively coach managers on fair documentation, and help us maintain a transparent, positive, and legally compliant workplace culture. What You'll Do: - Serve as the primary ER consultant for regional management, guiding them through performance management, team dynamics, and behavioral issues.
- Conduct objective, formal, end-to-end workplace investigations into regional complaints.
- Mediate workplace disputes drive timely resolution and maintain a supportive, collaborative environment.
- Guide managers in drafting clear, actionable disciplinary warnings, while maintaining immaculate investigation logs and files.
- Maintain expert knowledge of federal, state-specific regulations, paid leave rules, and wage-and-hour laws across your assigned eastern region.
- Proactively train managers and new administrators on labor laws, anti-harassment policies, and fair documentation practices.
- Manage and triage the HR email inbox, run regular compliance audits, handle ad-hoc reporting, and support corporate HR strategic initiatives.
- Run regional recruitment efforts for key roles, conduct new hire orientations, and process onboarding paperwork when required.
- Maintain knowledge of federal and state legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
- Operate in line with the organization’s mission, vision and values at all times, and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
- Perform duties in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well as established company policies and procedures.
- Perform special projects, assignments and other related duties as required.
What We're Looking For: - 3 to 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years heavily focused on handling multi-state employee relations and directly advising managers.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) strongly preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supporting multi-site operations and union grievance processing,
- Ability to reliably maintain consistent core working hours on Eastern Standard Time (EST).
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Exceptional active listening, mediation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- High competency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and hands-on experience with an HRIS platform.
- High emotional intelligence with the ability to remain calm, neutral, and highly organized under stress.
Preferred: - Experience participating in collective bargaining preparation or supporting unionized field teams, or multi-site operations.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
- Prior experience navigating HRIS platforms like Paycor or ADP.
Physical Requirements: - Must be able to travel quarterly, (occasionally more as needed) by airplane or motor vehicle to visit regional work sites.
- Constant sitting and typing/operating a computer, phone, and mouse. Frequent talking and hearing. Occasional lifting up to 10 lbs (rarely up to 25 lbs).
- Typical office environment with moderate noise levels.
