Originally established to help manage redemption-related costs associated with the state's beverage container recycling system, MRC has evolved into Maine's premier beverage container logistics and processing company.

Position Summary:
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the organization’s human resources functions, including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, training, payroll coordination, and policy development. This position serves as a strategic partner to leadership while ensuring HR practices support organizational goals, employee engagement, workforce compliance, and operational excellence. This position reports directly to the President of the Company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage daily Human Resources operations and provide guidance to leadership and employees.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and employee retention initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee handbook content.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including Form I-9, employment eligibility verification, and immigration-related employment requirements.
- Handle employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
- Maintain confidential employee records and oversee payroll, benefits administration, leave management, and HRIS functions.
- Advise managers on employee relations, policy interpretation, compliance, and workforce management matters.
- Support employee engagement, workplace culture, and professional development initiatives.
- Prepare reports, maintain compliance documentation, and assist with audits and regulatory requirements.
- Support risk management activities, including workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and workplace compliance initiatives.
- Recommend improvements to HR processes and operational efficiency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Previous HR leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, skilled trades, or other operational environments preferred.
- Ideal candidates will possess multilingual communication skills, with working proficiency in French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, HR best practices, and workforce compliance requirements.
- Experience with employee relations, recruiting, performance management, payroll, benefits administration, leave management, and HRIS systems.
- Working knowledge of Form I-9 requirements, employment eligibility verification, and immigration-related employment regulations.
- Understanding of wage and hour laws, workplace investigations, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and OSHA-related employment practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Certifications:
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or other HR certification preferred.
