Job Description:
Position Summary
The Windham Public Schools is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a Human Resources Generalist who is bilingual in English and Spanish. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for managing complex human resources duties and coordinating projects in the following functional areas: onboarding/offboarding, employee relations and retention, FMLA, Workers Compensation, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.
Essentials Functions
- Serve as the single-point-of-contact contact providing human resources support and service to an assigned group of schools and/or central office
- Manage onboarding and orientation processes
- Compile and monitor workforce data
- Assist employees with interpreting human resources forms, regulations, policies and guidelines
- Manage FMLA and Workers Compensation processes
- Analyze data and use strategies to continuously improve the employee experience and increase retention
- Maintain employee files and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies/laws
- Collaborate with administrators on staffing needs
- Proactively consults with HR Director while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of generalist role
- Interpret HR related data and develop appropriate initiatives or strategies in response
- Support off-boarding process and all exit procedures
- Lead aspects of hiring process including, but not limited to drafting job descriptions, posting positions, developing offer letters
- Audit human resources data and information to ensure union contractual and regulatory compliance
- Analyze and interpret policies, law changes, and procedures to support the development and documenting of HR procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Support departmental leadership on additional projects as necessary
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills, Knowledge, and Capacities
- Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with district personnel
- Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Skill in the use of industry-related specialized software (i.e. Frontline, MUNIS, Kronos), as well as the Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated cultural competency as it relates to serving in a diverse work environment
- Knowledge of FMLA and Workers Compensation laws and processes
- Experience working in a union environment, preferred
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree or 5+ years in related field
