Duties Description The Office of Classification and Compensation administers a sound and responsive position classification and compensation plan that ensures fairness, equity, and sensitivity to market conditions; and helps the State attract and retain talent. As the Department carries out key initiatives to transform the way services are delivered to partner agencies and to the public, this position will play an important role in ensuring the success of these modernization efforts.
Reporting to a Human Resources Specialist 2 (Classification & Compensation), the incumbent will be involved with the organizational management activities of assigned State agencies. These activities frequently involve interactions with high level managers and executives from various State agencies, tours and workforce audits of State facilities and offices, and meetings with policymakers from the Division of the Budget, Office of Employee Relations, and Office of the State Comptroller on enterprise workforce management issues.
The Human Resources Specialist 1 (Classification & Compensation) or Trainee 1 / Trainee 2 duties in the Division of Classification and Compensation will include but are not limited to the following:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required to complete these activities include research and analysis, preparation and review of a wide variety of written materials, and the ability to discuss, present, and defend cases/recommendations with agency and supervisory staff, and Department of Civil Service management. Must have strong computing and oral/written communication skills.
IMPACTFUL WORK: The mission of the Division of Classification & Compensation is to uphold the state's policy of equal pay for equal work. The Division ensures that individuals performing similar work receive similar pay and that compensation decisions are based strictly on the duties and responsibilities of the position and not on non-relevant job factors. That mission is accomplished by reviewing agencies' requests for new positions, changes in titles and salary grades of existing positions, and salary add-ons to ensure equity and consistency across state agencies.
If you are passionate about equity, looking for growth opportunities, rewarding work, and a collaborative environment, consider joining our team.
