Description

The Human Resources Specialist shall report to the Director of Human Resources. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Advertises vacant positions, builds announcements; posts position announcements on campus, web and other media/professional journals as appropriate; maintains database of possible advertisers and deadlines for same; communicates with advertisers to reserve and ensure placement of advertisements.
  • Manages Onboarding process. Opens and closes applicant files; responds to application questions/inquiries; files, scans, emails, and copies applications to forward to hiring authority for review. Assist with new employee orientation.
  • Responsible for hiring process of new employees including: advertising of all vacant full-time, part-time and work study positions in print, broadcast and direct mail advertising; coordinates the screening and selection process and records for applicants, including generation of new files; completes all appropriate forms
  • Updates and maintains personnel, electronic database files and human resources files, including all paperwork, salaries, status changes, etc.; verifies hiring documents and employment; processes background checks and personnel recommendations; processes all employee terminations.
  • Maintains and updates job descriptions; assists with the annual notification of salary/contracts and annual institutional audit.
  • Manages, maintains, and reconciles budgets; types correspondence including mail, email and memos, files, answers the telephone(s), sends facsimile, schedules appointments and other general office procedures; collects, opens, scans, dates and distributes incoming correspondence; proofreads all materials generated from Human Resources; maintains database of staff labels, college addresses and others as needed; maintains the human resources files; prepares check requests and purchase orders.
  • Coordinates the compensation and salary related activities for the college which includes salary calculations, employment verifications, social security wage verifications, preparation and/or data extrapolation from a variety of local, regional and national salary surveys; preparation of various written reports; market data, analysis and spreadsheets for use in annual salary increases, classification pay plan adjustments, etc.
  • Prepares travel honorariums for interviewees for professional and faculty positions; orders background checks for all full-time new hires.
  • Organizes and administers Annual training.
  • May serves as backup for payroll; assists HR and Payroll with the completion of a variety of reports.
  • May serve on various campus committees as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required
  • Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of human resource or secretarial experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Additional Information

This is a twelve-month non-exempt position. Standard benefits apply. The full pay range for this position is $25.38 - $27.47.

Thunderbird Health Center NMJC has entered into a partnership with Nor Lea Hospital to operate the Thunderbird Health Center, ensuring that high-quality healthcare services will be readily accessible to the campus community. The Thunderbird Health Center is available at no cost to NMJC students, faculty, and staff. Core - Corporate Fitness Membership Annual CORE (Center Of Recreational Excellence) Corporate Membership is for full-time employees and their eligible family members.

Wellness Program-NMJC offers a campus Wellness Program to promote individual wellness among members of the campus community through education and prevention. This program requires full-time employees to take ONE (1) hour each week from work to participate in physical activity. To sign up for this program, you must complete the NMJC Wellness Program Participation form and turn it in to the Human Resources Office.

Staff Tuition Waiver - A full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children are entitled to a total of nine (9) credit hours of tuition-free credit courses per semester, including course fees. In addition, a full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children can take (1) community education course/offering at no cost per semester, provided (i) NMJC employed the full-time employee as of the date of registration for such class or classes and (ii) the minimum number of paid enrollees has been attained to offer the class.

A full-time employee of NMJC, their spouse, and eligible children are each entitled to one (1) non-credit workforce training/program per fiscal year, provided: (i) NMJC employed the full-time employee as of the date of registration for such training/program and (ii) the minimum number of paid enrollees has been attained to offer the class.
