General Information
Under the supervision of the Assistant City Manager, the Human Services Manager will serve as the primary staff, representing the City of Ames, on the Analysis on Social Services Evaluation Team (ASSET). The Human Services Manager will also convene and lead community discussions around human services as needed.
This position is an ongoing, part-time, less than 20 hours per week position that is not benefit or paid leave eligible.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Must possess a Bachelors degree in public administration, public policy, public affairs, political science or a related field.
Masters Degree in one of these fields preferred.
At least two years of experience in a city government is required. This experience must consist of analysis, administration, or project management.
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with the Analysis on Social Services Evaluation Team
Experience convening local service providers around human services efforts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures including the utilization of automated technology to enhance office efficiency and effectiveness; considerable knowledge of departmental policies and administrative requirements as they affect clerical operations and responsibilities.
Skill in written and oral communication. Skill with word processing and other office software; skill in operating a computer terminal and other standard office equipment.
Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in applying policies and procedures to routine situations; ability to establish and to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers at all levels, customers and the general public. Ability to take the initiative to resolve challenging issues and leverage resources as needed.
Supplemental Information
Physical & Environmental Characteristics:
Required Physical Activities: Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, lifting, talking, hearing, repetitive motions.
Physical Characteristics of Work: Work is primarily sedentary and requires sitting and/or using various computer equipment 50% of the time; and standing and/or walking 20% of the time. Routinely requires the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, and infrequently requires the exertion of 10-25 pounds of force to lift or otherwise move objects.
Vision Requirements: The minimum for those whose work is involved primarily with extensive reading, and preparing and analyzing text and/or data, and the use of a computer terminal.
Environmental Conditions: The employee ordinarily works in an office environment and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
Selection Process:
The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, interview, and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status.
Preference may be given to applicants possessing qualifications above the minimum.
