Description

This is an ongoing, as-needed post to create a pool of applicants. As department needs are identified, this pool will be reviewed periodically to obtain potential candidates.

The Purpose

Sustain high-quality teaching performance in Appalachian culture including appropriate course loads. This load may include seated, hybrid, and online classes with day and evening course assignments, which may include courses at both campus locations.

Examples of Duties

What Youll Be Doing

  • Perform record-keeping functions in the areas of attendance and student performance in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain mastery and currency in the Appalachian culture field.
  • Market, recruit, and retain students in all college transfer programs.
  • Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.
  • Maintain working relationships with all college employees while at the same time demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Must have a Master's degree in Appalachian culture/studies or a Master's degree in a closely related field with 18 graduate hours in Appalachian culture/studies

Experience

A minimum of two years of teaching experience (college level preferred) and the proven ability to work in an environment in which change is a highly valued cultural characteristic. Must be able to demonstrate through education and/or experience.

Skills and the Know-How

Possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
