HVAC Controls Engineer

MARS Solutions Group is looking for an experienced HVAC Controls Engineer in Rocky Hill, CT. Our client is a building automation industry Leader looking for high-quality talent to make a difference. Position Summary

We are seeking an HVAC Building Controls Application Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting the design, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of commercial HVAC building automation systems.

This is a hands-on engineering position that combines HVAC controls design, software/programming, system commissioning, and field troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have experience in the commercial HVAC controls/BAS industry and be comfortable working with customers, contractors, vendors, sales teams, and other engineers.

Candidates with strong BAS/HVAC controls technician or field experience who are looking to transition into an engineering role are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

Design and configure HVAC building automation and control systems based on project requirements.

Develop control sequences, system architectures, flow diagrams, equipment schedules, and related engineering documentation.

Program and configure building control systems and associated software.

Develop and review control logic to ensure systems operate according to project specifications.

Assist with hardware selection, control panels, controllers, sensors, and other system components.

Prepare drawings, submittals, schematics, points lists, and other project documentation.

Support system startup, commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting.

Work with field technicians, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, customers, and project teams to resolve technical issues.

Travel to job sites as needed to support commissioning, troubleshooting, and system validation.

Identify field changes and communicate updates to the engineering/project team.

Monitor project progress and communicate technical issues, schedule concerns, and required changes.

Participate in project meetings and coordinate engineering responsibilities with field and project teams.

Provide technical support to other engineers and project resources when needed.

Occasionally support sales teams with technical input or pre-sales activities as experience develops.

Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and project timelines.

Required Qualifications

Experience in commercial HVAC controls, BAS, or building automation systems.

Experience with HVAC controls design, programming, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, or a combination of these areas.

Understanding of HVAC systems and automatic temperature controls.

Ability to read and understand electrical/control drawings and technical documentation.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, vendors, field personnel, and other engineers.

Strong computer skills and ability to learn new engineering/software platforms.

Willingness to work onsite and travel to local/regional job sites as required.

Education & Experience

A degree in engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience is preferred but not strictly required.

Work Environment

The position will initially be onsite five days per week at the Rocky Hill, CT office to support training, project work, and development.

As the employee becomes established in the role and demonstrates the ability to independently execute their responsibilities, there may be opportunities for occasional remote work, depending on project requirements and workload.

The position primarily supports projects throughout Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, with occasional travel to nearby markets when needed.
