Hvac Estimator

Key Responsibilities

• Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents
• Perform detailed takeoffs for HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, controls, and accessories
• Prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial HVAC projects (new construction, retrofit, and replacement)
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
• Apply labor, material, equipment, and overhead costs accurately
• Identify value-engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives
• Prepare bid proposals and assist with bid submissions
• Work closely with project managers to support project handoff and budgeting
• Maintain organized records of estimates, pricing, and historical job data
• Stay current on material pricing, labor rates, and market conditions

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC estimating (required)
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems (RTUs, VAV, boilers, chillers, piping, ductwork, controls)
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and schedules
• Proficiency in estimating software and Excel (BuildOps, Bluebeam, or similar a plus)
• Strong math, analytical, and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously

Preferred Experience

• Mechanical contracting background
• Design-build estimating experience
• Knowledge of local Chicago-area codes and construction practices
• Field experience as a commercial HVAC technician or project manager
