About the Role

ACI, a trusted commercial HVAC service provider, is growing its Burner Service Group and seeking an experienced HVAC Journeyman/Burner Technician to join our team.

This is a hands-on service role for an experienced technician who is comfortable diagnosing and servicing complex oil, gas, and dual-fuel burner systems and understands what it takes to keep commercial and industrial heating equipment operating safely and reliably.

What You'll Do

As an HVAC Journeyman / Burner Technician, you will maintain and repair sophisticated burner systems, including oil, gas, dual-fuel, parallel-positioning, steam, and hot-water equipment, while supporting the development of mechanics, apprentices, and helpers. This position is well suited to a driven technician who can troubleshoot complex combustion problems, works effectively with others, and is eager to build a long-term career with a strong service team. Responsibilities may include:

• Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain commercial and industrial burner systems.
• Troubleshoot oil, gas, and dual-fuel combustion equipment.
• Perform burner start-ups, adjustments, testing, and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, combustion, and controls-related issues.
• Service boilers, heating systems, burners, and related mechanical equipment.
• Inspect and test equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Read/interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
• Identify defective components and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
• Respond to service calls and resolve equipment issues in a timely and professional manner.
• Document service work, repairs, parts, materials, and equipment conditions.
• Communicate professionally with customers, facility personnel, supervisors, and other members of the service team.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Follow all company, customer, jobsite, and OSHA safety requirements.
• Participate in emergency or after-hours service as required.

Technical Leadership & Mentoring

This position provides an opportunity to serve as a technical resource for other mechanics.

You will:

• Provide technical guidance to less-experienced mechanics.
• Assist with troubleshooting and repair of complex burner and combustion issues.
• Share knowledge of burner systems, combustion principles, controls, and safe service practices.
• Help promote consistent, high-quality service practices across the Burner Service Group.
• Support the development of apprentices and other team members.

Depending on your experience and assignment, you may work with:

• Commercial and industrial burners
• Oil-fired equipment
• Gas-fired equipment
• Dual-fuel systems
• Boilers and commercial heating systems
• Burner management systems
• Flame safeguard systems
• Ignition systems
• Fuel trains and related components
• Combustion controls
• Electrical and control systems
• Commercial HVAC and mechanical equipment

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a skilled technician who takes pride in their trade, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and understands the importance of safe and reliable combustion equipment.

Required Qualifications

• Journeyman-level HVAC experience with a strong background in commercial burner service.
• Hands-on experience servicing and troubleshooting oil, gas, and/or dual-fuel burner systems.
• Strong understanding of combustion, ignition, flame safeguard, fuel delivery, and burner control systems.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to diagnose complex equipment and combustion-related problems.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with customers, mechanics, and service leadership.
• Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
• Ability and willingness to mentor less-experienced mechanics.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
• EPA Section 608 certification, where required.
• Ability to safely work in commercial and industrial environments, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, ladders, lifts, and other jobsite conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Journeyman HVAC license or applicable trade certification.
• Experience with commercial or industrial boilers.
• Experience with combustion analysis and burner setup.
• Building automation or HVAC controls experience.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Manufacturer-specific burner or boiler training/certifications.
• Union experience or current union membership.
