The HVAC Maintenance Technician will perform duties necessary to properly maintain all HVAC equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent and HVAC or BMS Vocational diploma or certificate; or High School diploma or GED equivalent and apprentice experience.
- Two to five years of experience with HVAC and building equipment.
- CFC certification.
- Current valid North Carolina driver's license and driving record in good standing
- Various computer program knowledge
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of computer operated controls
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Troubleshoot and repair HVAC and refrigeration equipment to include: rotary screw and reciprocating chillers up to 200 ton; direct expansion split systems; large gas fired boilers; commercial refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, freezers and ice makers; and other appliances and equipment as needed
- Work with faculty, staff, and students to resolve HVAC complaints or problems
- Become familiar with and participate in the refrigerant recovery program and the preventive maintenance program
- Assist in preliminary design plans and specifications for remodels, upgrades to new HVAC constructions. Assist controls team and Department Supervisor when directed
- Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed equipment
- Operate and troubleshoot automated computerized control system
- Operate and troubleshoot pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems
- Inventory and maintain stock of HVAC and electrical items
- Complete and or update work orders through automated system daily
- Diagnose malfunctioning equipment such as computer control boards, transformers, motors, compressors, variable speed drives, gas burners, VAV boxes, air handlers, and replace damaged or broken wire and cables
- Assist other trades as necessary
- Operate a forklift when necessary, with training
- Subject to be on call for emergency items
- Assist with snow removal
- Attend classes/training when offered to further knowledge within field
- Other duties may be assigned
