Job Summary

This position is advertised from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate. Salary will be determined based on education and experience at the time of offer.

NATURE OF WORK

Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in skilled HVAC maintenance and repair work; this position has department specific responsibility.

Nature of Work

(Illustrative Only) Installs, operates, monitors, inspects, maintains, and repairs, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems throughout all County facilities; systems include state-of-the-art electric, diesel, and natural gas, general and special purpose air conditioning systems, refrigerators, and freezers; checks and monitors heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems to ensure systems and controls are operating properly; reads and calibrates gauges, computerized Digital Control Systems (DCS), thermostats, and thermometers; checks expansion coils for excessive ice formation, listens for unusual noises; checks oil and refrigerant level in systems and checks piping and fittings for refrigerant leaks; checks air filters for cleanliness, check operation of fans, dampers, louvers, and controls of air movement; tests and treats water in closed heating and cooling systems and water cooled condensers to control deposits of solids and algae; conducts periodic and routine inspections of public building HVAC systems, exhaust fans and similar equipment, control systems and units. Installs, maintains, replaces and adjusts compressors, pumps, blowers, fans, copper tubing, heat exchange equipment, various types of valves, filters, and driers, pressure control devices, and temperature, humidity, and air control devices; reviews work orders, identifies material and equipment needs for each assigned project, troubleshoots repair and maintenance issues, and resolves problems; makes emergency service calls after normal business hours; regular and reliable attendance is required; performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and four (4) years of experience in the air conditioning and refrigeration trade; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements: Must possess EPA Universal Certification 608 for compliance with liquid refrigerant recovery and record keeping regulatory requirements; must possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.

County: Requires successful completion of a background check.

Sheriffs: Must successfully pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Yuma County Sheriff's Department.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: County policies and procedures; refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance practices including control systems; ventilating and heating systems including safe handling and record keeping procedures; and occupational hazards and required preventive methods.

Skill in: Reading blueprints, specifications, and sketches; solving problems using practical mathematics; using test instruments related to the trade; the use of tools, equipment, and materials common to the trade; safely operating a variety of equipment, and maintaining safety standards; and following written and verbal instructions.

Ability to: Be exposed to exhaust, chemical fumes and hazardous materials; lift 25 pounds; work in varying extreme weather conditions; work varying shifts, weekends, and holidays; recognize hazardous conditions and react appropriately; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; follow written and verbal instructions; stand and bend (30%); walk and stoop (20%); perform the essential functions of the job specifications with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Generally the job requires 30% bending, 20% walking, 20% stooping and 30% standing. The job is performed under varying extreme weather conditions and may have risk of exposure to communicable diseases.

Medical Coverage Category

The YCEBT is a self-funded medical plan administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Arizona (BCBSAZ). The employee is able to select from three (3) medical plan options with six (6) tiers that will best suit the employees needs, dependents or families.

Plan Option 1: Preferred Provider Option A (PPO) or PPO A 1100 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.

Plan Option 2: Preferred Provider Option B (PPO) or PPO B 1,500 deductible. Employees who participate in the "Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.

Plan Option 3: High Deductible High Plan - Health Savings Account (HDHP-HSA) with a 1700 deductible. Employees who participate in the " Wellness Incentive" will receive a $30 monthly premium reduction by completing three steps.

Employer contributes a total of $800.04 to employees Health Savings Account. If employees select Employee only and participate in the " Wellness Incentive" employees can receive up to 360.00 contribution to a Limited Purpose FSA card to be used for medical or dental purposes.

Southwest Service Administrator (SSA) Mexico PPO Health Plan: SSA is available to employees who are enrolled in YCEBT Medical PPO Plan A and PPO Plan B. The SSA Plan pays 100% of hospital, medical, laboratory and prescription drug benefits, to a maximum of $5,000 per person per calendar year ($10,000 for two or more family members).
