Academy Busâ¯is seeking a full-timeHVACMechanicfor at ourSecaucus, NJlocation.$2500 Sign On Bonus. Pay rate starting at $30.00 per hour.

7:00am-4:30pm
We are seeking a detail-oriented HVAC Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of climate control systems on our fleet of motorcoach buses. While you will primarily work on specialized transit units, we are eager to train skilled mechanics from residential, commercial, or industrial backgrounds. Your expertise ensures that our passengers travel in comfort and safety, regardless of the weather outside.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repair: Inspect, diagnose, and repair motorcoach HVAC systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and blower motors.
Preventative Maintenance: Perform routine system checkups, including filter replacements, belt inspections, and coil cleanings to prevent mid-route failures.
Diagnostics: Use specialized gauges, scanners, and software to troubleshoot electrical faults, refrigerant leaks, and component failures.
Refrigerant Management: Safely recover, recharge, and handle refrigerants (e.g., R134a and R407) in strict compliance with EPA Section 609 standards.
System Testing: Conduct performance tests after repairs to verify optimal cooling and heating cycles.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all service work, parts used, and refrigerant logs for compliance and fleet management.
Field Support: Occasionally respond to road calls to perform emergency climate control repairs in the field.
Required Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Certification:EPA Section 609 certification (required) or the ability to obtain it within 90 days.
Technical Skill: Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills developed through residential, commercial, or automotive HVAC experience.
Safety Mindset: Deep understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions, including handling pressurized gases.
Preferred Skills & Requirements:
Experience with heavy-duty transit HVAC brands like Carrier, Thermo King, or Mobile Climate Control.
ASE certifications (e.g., H7 Transit Bus HVAC) are a plus.
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical service manuals.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in tight engine compartments or on elevated platforms.
Comfortable working in various weather conditions and standing for prolonged periods.
