RVE (an Ardurra company) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Durham, NC.We work with clients to ensure that their buildings and associated infrastructure meet their current and future needs, are integrated as appropriate and operate efficiently. Our professionals bring together engineering and strong economic and management principles to design and upgrade heating, air conditioning, ventilation and other systems for our K-12, higher education, healthcare, hospitality and industrial clients as part of new construction or renovation projects. As Engineer of Record and Program Manager we design and implement holistic facility improvements. We maintain the skills in house to implement cost effective MEP facilities design.Our mechanical engineers have the experience to design spaces for multiple functions and to integrate systems to maintain a consistent comfort zone for air quality and exchange. Our engineers design smart, efficient control systems for effective control of environmental conditions and to facilitate troubleshooting and problem or conflict detection.Primary Function The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and fire alarm systems for commercial, industrial, and educational projects. This role oversees projects from concept through construction, performing mechanical calculations, equipment selection, system layouts, and the design of hydronic piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment. The engineer will coordinate with clients, architects, and multidisciplinary teams while managing project schedules, deliverables, and construction documentation to ensure quality and accuracy. Additionally, this position provides technical leadership by mentoring junior engineers and designers, conducting site visits as needed, supporting proposal development, and contributing to the continued growth of the mechanical engineering practice.Primary Duties Support the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including fire alarm systems, for commercial, industrial, and educational projectsPerform and review mechanical calculations, equipment selections, and system layoutsOversee hydronic (chilled and hot water) piping design, ductwork, and mechanical equipment sizingDevelop and manage project schedules, deliverables, and client expectationsEnsure quality and accuracy of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and calculationsCoordinate with cross-discipline teams, architects, and clientsMentor and guide junior engineers and designers, providing technical oversight and career development supportPerform site visits and field surveys when requiredAssist in proposal development and contribute to department growth initiativesOversee projects from concept through construction, mentor junior staffProvide high-quality engineering services for educational, commercial, and industrial clientsEducation and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline required7+ years of experience in design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including fire alarmsPE license requiredAbility to clarify and concisely express thoughts verbally and in written correspondence/reports/specificationsProvides effort and takes pride in all work assignments producedNot afraid to ask for guidance/assistance in order to expedite the date of assignment deliverablesAbility to simultaneously work on group and individual assignmentsMust have effective communication, management and writing skillsMust be skilled in the use of Word/Excel productsWhy Ardurra?
