Job Summary ------------

Chatham County Facilities Maintenance has an opening for an HVAC Preventive Maintenance Mechanic. We encourage you to apply if you have your HVAC certification and three (3) years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and replace various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, equipment, and related components.
  • Observe the installed systems and equipment operation to detect hazards and identify the need for adjustment or replacement.
  • Perform all work activities according to specifications, including the maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Check the temperature on HVAC units and maintain HVAC systems.
  • Provide cost estimates for work, materials, and supplies associated with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning maintenance and repair projects.
  • May serve as a team leader.
  • Must be available for emergency/urgent recall after regular working hours and 24 hours on weekends and holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification from a vocational school or state certification training in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning, and
  • At least three (3) years of experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installation, repair, and maintenance or a closely related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • You must provide and wear protective footwear during working hours.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
  • In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Drivers License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
  • Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.

  • Full-time employees working a regular schedule of 30 or more hours per week are eligible for County benefits.
