Program Overview
Sussex Technical High School seeks an individual to be an instructor for the HVAC-R Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The program affords students the skills and knowledge to work in the field of the construction trades. Students work towards and earn NCCER and EPA certifications. Students may also earn advanced standing for apprenticeship.
Candidates with work experience in HVAC-R field can be hired as a teacher and are afforded six (6) years to complete teacher certification requirements if necessary.
Qualifications:
Hold or be eligible for license and certification as Skilled and Technical Sciences (STS) teacher in accordance with 14?Del.C.?§1559. Use link to access requirements. https://regulations.delaware.gov/AdminCode/title14/1559
Applicants must be approved by the Delaware Department of Education for certification. Applicants must show relative training, work experience, and relevant certifications in the field of HVAC-R trades to earn certification.
Applicants may be granted up to 6 years to gain final teacher certification while teaching in order to gain the required credentials.
Experience working with high school aged students preferred.

Performance Responsibilities:
Work in collaboration with current school administration, Sussex Tech Adult Education leaders, advisory board, and other trades teachers to enhance the technical area of study.
Ensure a safe and welcoming environment.
Provide high quality standards-based and student-centered instruction to high school students.
Provide students with industry-modeled, hands-on shop experiences, including working/ managing within the school-based shop area.
Recruit and maintain active program Advisory Committee. Hold at least two advisory meetings per year.
Consult with the program advisory committee for the purpose of evaluating and updating the curriculum and course of study.
Support students in finding work-based learning experiences and job placement in local businesses or facilities with automotive maintenance.
Deliver instruction in courses and content that prepare students for a career field of HVAC-R.
Establish clear objectives for all units, lessons and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques to address diverse student learning styles, needs and interests.
Use career-related and instructional technology to enhance student learning and expand learning opportunities.
Collaborate with colleagues in other academic and CTE areas to offer integrated lessons and projects.
Assess student learning on a regular basis, provide effective feedback to students and use data to inform adjustments to instruction and/or student supports.
Enter student attendance, grading and other required information in a timely manner.
Supervise and prepare students for Career Technical Student Organization membership and events.
Prepare students for competition in SkillsUSA or other applicable contests.
Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and district policy.
Participate in IEP and 504 plan meetings for assigned students.
Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
Other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Ten (10) month teacher position.
Salary and Benefits: Pension and benefit eligible position. Salary commensurate with verified qualifications and experience according to state and local salary schedules. Salary range: $59,722 - $114,958
