Description

The HVAC Refrigeration Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

This role supports a variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and control systems across commercial and industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate is highly skilled in mechanical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, system diagnostics, and customer service while maintaining strong safety and compliance standards.

Requirements

Installation & Maintenance

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC units, walk-in coolers/freezers, ice machines, rooftop units, split systems, chillers, and refrigeration equipment
  • Ensure systems operate efficiently and meet manufacturer specifications
  • Replace defective components including compressors, motors, belts, controls, valves, sensors, and electrical components

Troubleshooting & Repair

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system issues
  • Troubleshoot low-voltage and high-voltage electrical systems
  • Identify refrigerant leaks and perform proper recovery, evacuation, and recharge procedures
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals
  • Test system performance and verify proper operation after repairs

Customer Service & Communication

  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding system issues, repair recommendations, and preventative maintenance opportunities
  • Complete accurate service reports, documentation, and work orders
  • Provide professional representation of the company at all customer locations

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all OSHA, EPA, and company safety procedures
  • Maintain EPA certification compliance for refrigerant handling
  • Ensure work is completed according to local codes, regulations, and company standards
  • Maintain tools, service vehicle, and jobsite cleanliness

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3+ years of commercial HVAC and refrigeration experience preferred
  • EPA Universal Certification required
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, electrical troubleshooting, and controls
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical school or trade certification in HVAC, Refrigeration, or Mechanical Systems
  • Experience with BAS (Building Automation Systems) and controls
  • Experience with supermarkets, restaurants, healthcare, or industrial refrigeration systems
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • Manufacturer certifications
  • Experience with rack systems, chillers, boilers, and advanced refrigeration systems

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds regularly
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, rooftops, ladders, and mechanical rooms
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work with tools for extended periods
  • Availability for overtime, emergency service calls, and on-call rotation as needed
