Job Description

We're hiring a service technician who can run his own calls, find the
actual fault, and leave the system working right.

You won't be doing it alone. Every one of our techs works with a helper
— you're not hauling gear up service elevators or running back to the
van for a fitting. You do tech work. That's the whole point.

WHAT WE PAY

$95,000 - $115,000 base, depending on what you can actually do
  ($45 - $55/hr equivalent)

Overtime at time and a half after 40 hours
On-call rotation, one week in four, paid stipend plus minimum hours
  per call-out
Written 90-day review with a defined raise if you're performing above
the level we started you at
  Year-end bonus

WHAT ELSE YOU GET

  Health and dental insurance
  401(k) with company match
Paid vacation, paid sick days, company holidays
A helper with you on the job — every job, not just the big ones
Take-home van with gas card and E-ZPass — you go straight to the job
  Company phone and tablet
We pay for certifications: NATE, FDNY Certificates of Fitness, SST,
  OSHA 30, manufacturer training
Gauges, recovery machines, meters, and specialty tools supplied
  Annual hand-tool allowance
  Uniforms

Job Responsibilities

THE WORK

Service and repair across a steady book of commercial accounts —
[office buildings, retail, restaurants, multifamily].

Rooftop units, splits, air handlers, fan coils
Refrigeration: charging, recovery, evacuation, leak detection and
  repair, brazing and silver solder
Controls and low voltage: contactors, relays, transformers, safeties,
time clocks, sensors — reading schematics and sequences of operation
Boilers, burners, hydronic and hot water systems
Talking directly to building engineers, supers, and property managers
Writing service reports someone else can read and act on

You run your own calls and make the call on site. You won't be
second-guessed for ordering the right part, and when a job goes sideways
you've got the shop behind you — parts ordered same day, a second tech
when the job needs two, and a manager who takes the customer call so you
can keep working.

WHO DOES WELL HERE

Techs who own the call. You take the job and it's handled. Nobody
checks behind you.

Techs who chase the cause. Swapping parts until it runs isn't a repair.
You want to know why it failed, and you'll put it in the report.

Techs who can talk to anybody. The building engineer, the property
manager, and the helper on the roof all walk away knowing exactly what
you told them.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU NEED

5+ years commercial HVAC service and repair
  EPA 608 Universal
Real refrigeration fundamentals — you can read a system off its
  pressures and temperatures
Electrical and control troubleshooting you can do without phoning a
  friend
  Brazing and silver solder
Working knowledge of boilers, burners, and hydronics
  Valid New York driver's license
Comfortable on rooftops, ladders, and NYC job sites

NYC credentials — FDNY G-60 and F-60, OSHA 30, SST card. If you don't
have them, we'll pay for them.

Helps but not required: NATE, NYC Refrigeration Operating Engineer
license, VRF or water source heat pump experience, manufacturer
training, bilingual English/Spanish or Russian.

HOW HIRING WORKS

1. A ten-minute technical phone call. We'll talk refrigeration cycle and
control wiring. Straightforward stuff — nothing you wouldn't hit on a
   Tuesday.

2. If that goes well, a working interview at the shop. Live equipment,
a conversation between techs. We'll ask how you'd approach a problem
   and why.

Everybody goes through the same process so nobody's time gets wasted,
including yours. Bring your questions — you'll get straight answers.
