HVAC Supervisor

Job Title:HVAC SupervisorReports To:Maintenance ManagerClassification:ProfessionalWage/Hour Status:ExemptDays:250Salary:See Compensation Plan for Administrative/Professional Pay Plan, Pay Grade 104Contract:NoneDate Revised:5/1/2026Primary Purpose:This position is responsible for all installation, preventative maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and building automation systems. Assign appropriate HVAC staff to make repairs, maintain preventative maintenance schedules utilize contracted services to make repairs, maintain HVAC budgets. Work with construction department to verify that specifications are followed. Maintain inspection schedules related to Fire Code and Permitting.Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of college preferred HVAC courses.
  • Valid current Class "C" Texas driver's license.
  • EPA Universal license Certified to handle CFC's under 40CFR, Part 82, sub part F or willing to secure within the 1st year of hiring.
  • Prefer HVAC license or electrical maintenance license with City of Houston or state, a positive asset but not a requirement.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of heating, ventilation and refrigeration theory.
  • Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of HVAC equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of the design and operation of building automation systems.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and prescribe repair procedures.
  • Ability to train and supervise others.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, assign, coordinate and direct the work of HVAC mechanics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with district staff
  • Proficiency in the use of specialized test and processing control equipment, including computer workstations involving HVAC programming, laptops utilized to download control programs, trouble shooting of computer process boards on various brands of cooling and heating equipment.
  • Capable of making independent, on the spot, "safe to operate" decisions regarding safety of students, staff and the public.

Experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years' experience required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Major Duties and

Responsibilities:

Maintenance and Repair:

  • Receive, prioritize and assign work requests.
  • Assign personnel to jobs.
  • Supervise repair and installation of equipment and controls systems.
  • Conduct a quality check of work in progress or upon completion to assure acceptability.
  • Oversee repair and replacement of building automation systems.
  • Oversee repair and replacement of all compressors.
  • Train staff in proper use of tools, and proper work procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records on material and labor used. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Detect needed repairs on equipment following established inspection and walk through procedures.
  • Respond to emergency calls during regular hours and after hours.

Safety:

  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

Other:

  • Assist in hiring/interviewing.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and municipal laws, regulations, or codes and local board and departmental policies.
  • Act as Project Lead person and point of contact, assist with new construction.
  • Work with city, village and state inspectors when requested.
  • Most be available after hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Participate in short/long term planning.
  • Conduct staff evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory

Responsibilities:Supervise Mechanic I, II, III, IAQ and Building Automation Staff.Equipment Used:Laptop, meters, gages, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, and propane torch. Light truck or van.Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Work with frequent interruptions.
  • This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands:

  • Continual standing, walking, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to perform extensive physical and repetitive activities, including but not limited to stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, carrying, climbing (ladder) and moderate lifting and carrying up to 105 lbs.
  • Working hours may be modified at the discretion of supervisory personnel.

Environmental Factors:

  • Work for continuous or extended periods exposed to, but not limited to the sun, heat, cold, poor weather conditions and/or mechanical room or equipment noise.
