Position Summary


We are seeking an experienced and dependable Residential HVAC Service Technician to diagnose, repair, maintain, and service residential heating and air conditioning systems.


The ideal candidate is a skilled troubleshooter who can work independently, communicate professionally with homeowners, and accurately diagnose HVAC problems without unnecessary replacement of parts. The technician will be responsible for providing high-quality service while maintaining a clean, professional appearance and representing the company well in customers' homes.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Diagnose and repair residential heating and air conditioning equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, airflow, and refrigerant-related problems.
  • Service and repair central air conditioning systems, heat pumps, gas furnaces, boilers, air handlers, ductless mini-splits, and related HVAC equipment.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and system inspections.
  • Properly diagnose refrigerant system problems using pressures, superheat, subcooling, temperature measurements, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Diagnose electrical components including motors, capacitors, contactors, relays, control boards, transformers, thermostats, and low-voltage controls.
  • Identify airflow problems involving filters, evaporator coils, blowers, ductwork, dampers, and other system components.
  • Explain findings and recommended repairs clearly to homeowners.
  • Provide customers with repair options and obtain authorization before completing additional work.
  • Complete service tickets with accurate descriptions of the problem, diagnosis, repairs performed, and materials used.
  • Collect payment when required at the completion of service.
  • Maintain an organized and properly stocked service vehicle.
  • Maintain company tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep the work area and customer's home clean and protected while performing service.
  • Follow EPA regulations, manufacturer procedures, company policies, and applicable safety requirements.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation when required.
  • Assist other technicians and installers when necessary.
  • Attend company meetings and technical training as required.
Qualifications


  • Previous residential HVAC service experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability.
  • Working knowledge of residential air conditioning, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, and ductless systems.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and use electrical testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of refrigerant charging and HVAC system performance.
  • EPA Section 608 certification required for technicians handling refrigerants.
  • Connecticut HVAC trade license preferred or required depending on position and scope of work.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and professional.
  • Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for scheduling, service documentation, and communication.
Physical Requirements


Technician must be able to:


  • Lift and carry HVAC equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Work from ladders and in attics, basements, crawlspaces, and other confined areas.
  • Work outdoors in hot and cold weather.
  • Bend, kneel, climb, reach, and stand for extended periods.
  • Safely perform the physical duties normally associated with residential HVAC service work.
