Works under the general guidance and direction of the Utilities and Systems Manager.  Performs installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Perform maintenance and repair on fire alarm systems, clock system, refrigeration equipment, kitchen equipment and various other technical equipment. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repair of campus HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose HVAC systems, failures and complaints.
  • Perform service and repair of commercial and industrial equipment and appliances.
  • Maintain Freon and Safety Data Sheets used by the department.
  • Maintain and repair campus fire alarm systems.
  • Maintain and repair refrigerant systems.
  • Maintain and repair kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain and repair the campus clock system.
  • Promote and practice energy conservation methods.
  • Must be self-motivated with the ability to work safely and independently.
  • Some night and off-duty callbacks are involved.
  • Perform additional duties as the need arises or as directed by supervisor.

 

 Minimum Qualifications & Skills 

 

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess or be able and willing to obtain EPA Universal Refrigeration certificate.
  • Registered as HVAC Apprentice in state of Idaho.  Must be progressing towards Idaho HVAC Journeyman license.
  • Possess an understanding of mathematics, electricity/electronics, computer operations, HVAC systems theory and operation acquired through vocational training, equivalent working experience, and applicable seminars.
  • Mechanical and analytical abilities.
  • Possess an understanding of energy management and conservation techniques.
  • Possess an understanding of blueprint reading and specification reading/writing.
  • Skills in dealing courteously and effectively with other CSI employees, students, the public, and contractors.
  • Possess an understanding of network systems, electrical systems, hydronic systems, refrigeration systems, and building energy use.
  • Proficient with test meters and understanding wiring diagrams.
  • Possess an understanding of control theory and control concepts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software and strong PC computer skills.
  • Possess strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Ability to implement strategies and procedures that will improve service operations.

 

Work Schedule and Conditions

 

  • 40 hours per week – schedule will include some evening, weekend, and on-call duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Indoors and outdoors.  All weather conditions.  Varying indoor conditions including hot, cold, noisy, and dirty conditions.
