HVAC Technician – Job Description

Location: Newark, NJ

Pay Rate: $22-$28/ Per Hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems for residential and commercial properties in the Newark, NJ area. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic skills, knowledge of HVAC systems, and the ability to provide excellent customer service while ensuring all work is completed safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC systems and equipment
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues with heating and cooling systems
• Perform preventive maintenance and system inspections
• Repair or replace compressors, motors, thermostats, condensers, and other HVAC components
• Test HVAC systems for proper operation and efficiency
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
• Ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, and local safety regulations
• Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inventory
• Respond to emergency service calls when needed
• Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs and maintenance recommendations

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• HVAC certification or technical training preferred
• EPA Section 608 Certification required/preferred
• Previous HVAC technician experience preferred
• Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills
• Knowledge of refrigeration systems and HVAC controls
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions

Preferred Skills

• Commercial and residential HVAC experience
• Experience with rooftop units, boilers, chillers, and furnaces
• Knowledge of smart thermostats and energy-efficient systems
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Time management and organizational abilities

Work Environment

• Indoor and outdoor work environments
• May require climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, and lifting heavy equipment
• On-call, overtime, and weekend availability may be required depending on workload and emergencies
