Position: Senior HVAC/R Service Technician

Reports To: VP of Technical Services

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Overview

This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial HVAC/R systems. The position involves working on moderately complex to advanced mechanical systems across a range of commercial environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose issues and perform repairs on commercial HVAC systems

  • Troubleshoot, install, repair, and rebuild large HVAC/R units (up to 50 tons)

  • Work in confined spaces and at heights as needed

  • Support crane operations for rooftop equipment placement (often during off-hours)

  • Inspect and monitor system performance; replace parts as needed

  • Repair and maintain components such as compressors, motors, pumps, and thermostats

  • Operate service vehicles, tools, torches, and diagnostic equipment

  • Install and service electronic, pneumatic, and DDC control systems

  • Handle ladders (approx. 60 lbs.) and transport equipment between job sites

  • Perform preventative maintenance (filters, inspections, etc.)

  • Manage daily parts/tools required for job completion

  • Complete work orders clearly and accurately for client communication

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years of HVAC experience (commercial preferred)

  • Valid New York driver's license

  • EPA Certification

  • Burner's permit

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems

  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills with minimal callbacks

  • Experience using diagnostic tools and testing instruments

  • Capable of working independently and making sound decisions in the field

Physical & Work Conditions

  • Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 100 lbs.)

  • Exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and outdoor elements

  • Work at heights and in physically demanding environments

Additional Qualifications

  • 15-20 years of commercial HVAC/R service and maintenance experience

  • Strong installation background (15+ years preferred)

  • Technical HVAC training preferred

  • NYC Burner's Permit a plus

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations

  • Strong communication skills
