HVAC Technician

Position Summary

We are hiring a full-time HVAC Technician to support a large manufacturing and engineering facility in Rockford, IL. This role is a great fit for someone early in their HVAC career who wants to grow their technical skills in a stable, team-oriented environment.

You’ll help maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems and facility equipment while working alongside experienced technicians.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration repairs on HVAC and related facility equipment with minimal supervision.
• Troubleshoot and repair heating, cooling, ventilation, pneumatic, and control systems.
• Maintain boilers, air handling units, chillers, air conditioning units, and associated mechanical systems.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability.
• Inspect, clean, replace, and repair HVAC components as needed.
• Install new equipment and assist with relocation of existing systems and machinery.
• Respond to maintenance service calls and support facility repair operations.
• Utilize electrical meters, diagnostic tools, and HVAC testing equipment safely and effectively.
• Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, refrigeration drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Properly complete maintenance work requests and maintain accurate service documentation.
• Follow all company safety procedures and maintain clean, organized work areas.
• Work indoors and outdoors, including rooftops, mechanical spaces, and elevated work areas when required.
• Support team operations and assist other maintenance personnel as needed.
• Attend company-sponsored training and work overtime when required.

Required Experience / Skills

• 3–7 years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC maintenance, facility maintenance, or related technical environments.
• Experience troubleshooting HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems.
• Experience working with electrical systems including 3-phase and 480V equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot pneumatic and electrical control systems.
• Experience with boilers, chillers, air handlers, and commercial HVAC systems.
• Ability to use HVAC diagnostic tools, electrical testing equipment, and hand tools safely and effectively.
• Proficiency with brazing and soldering.
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to safely work at heights and in industrial environments.
• Willingness to work overtime as required.
• EPA Universal Certification or CFC Certification required or ability to obtain.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)
• OSHA certification
• Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or large commercial facilities
• Experience with boilers, controls, or commercial HVAC systems
• Trade school or technical HVAC training

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• HVAC or technical trade school preferred

Location & Clearance Requirements

• Rockford, IL
• Must be able to pass a government background screening

Compensation & Benefits

• $25–28/hour
