Job Summary

The Hyperbaric Technician is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by a physician. This role involves operating and maintaining hyperbaric chambers and equipment, monitoring patients during therapy, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards. The Hyperbaric Technician collaborates with clinical teams to support patient care and may assist with wound care services under the supervision of appropriate medical personnel.

Essential Functions

  • Operates, monitors, and maintains hyperbaric chambers and associated equipment to ensure safe and effective therapy.
  • Administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy as prescribed by the physician, adhering to established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Conducts pre-treatment patient assessments and reviews patient histories to ensure suitability for hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
  • Restricts or removes potentially hazardous items from the hyperbaric chamber and ensures adherence to safety protocols.
  • Monitors patients during hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions, identifying and addressing any issues or complications promptly.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed medical records, documenting patient therapy sessions, diagnostic tests, and follow-up care.
  • Implements and enforces safety procedures, including decompression protocols and infection control measures.
  • Investigates safety incidents, collects relevant data, and reports findings to facility management and hyperbaric physicians.
  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient care and safety.
  • Escalates and reports safety, quality, or operational issues, including infection control and hazard control concerns, to appropriate personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Technical School completion of an approved Hyperbaric Technician training program required
  • 0-1 years of training or experience in basic hyperbaric chamber required
  • 1-2 years of experience as a hyperbaric technician or related role preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of hyperbaric oxygen therapy principles, protocols, and equipment operation
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures rigorously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Ability to assess patient condition and respond promptly to emergencies or complications
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate medical records and documentation
  • Familiarity with infection control and hazard control procedures in a healthcare setting

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association required
  • CHT - Certification in Hyperbaric Technology preferred
