I-BEST Case Manager/Advisor

DESCRIPTION: 

The I-BEST Case Manager serves a growing population of primarily non-native English speakers who are eligible for or enrolled in our I-BEST and Basic Skills/College PREP programs and transitioning to a variety of college and career programs.  This is an overtime-eligible exempt position in the School of Academic Foundations Division and reports to the Director of Basic Skills Students Services. 


The I-BEST  case manager, working in conjunction with the I-BEST team,  is responsible for recruiting, enrolling, and providing ongoing wrap-around support for students enrolled in our I-BEST  (Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training) program. This position advises students in selecting coursework, creating educational and career plans, applying for financial assistance, and developing college success skills. Case Managers are responsible for tracking and managing student progress from intake to completion, providing one-on-one support to students with the goal of reducing barriers to college access, retention, and completion, and fostering students’ academic success and well-being.  This work requires dedication, flexibility, teamwork, and a passion for serving immigrant, refugee, first-generation, and English language learner students. The people best suited for this position demonstrate a strong equity mindset, and skills in advocacy, networking, resourcefulness, and collaboration. They will also possess the skills to work effectively as part of a dynamic team of case managers, administrators, and instructors, serving students while creating a welcoming atmosphere of acceptance, respect, encouragement, and support for students.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Enrollment Management/Registration

  • Develop and lead I-BEST  information and advising sessions, and assist with the design of promotional materials for I-BEST classes and programs.
  • Schedule quarterly class visits with I-BEST and School of Academic Foundations classes, for recruitment and student registration and funding reminders.
  • Assist students in navigating quarterly registration and other key Enrollment Services processes.
  • Assist students in developing comprehensive educational/academic plans and clarifying personal, educational, and career goals
  • Use the college’s Student Management System to update enrollment information, class rosters, student group coding, and contact information for IBEST and College Prep students.

Case Management/Student Retention

  • Case manage prospective and current I-BEST participants regarding academic and vocational program goals, admission procedures, degree or certificate requirements, funding options, and graduation requirements.
  • Coordinate with the team and faculty to monitor student progress in I-BEST classes, reach out to those at risk or facing academic challenges, and initiate appropriate support and interventions. 
  • Provide daily, consistent and accessible support to students as they move through their program.
  • Track student contact data and maintain student files for the purpose of case management as well as quarterly and annual grant reporting.

Funding Navigation

  • Screen for eligibility, and assist students in understanding and applying for various types of financial aid. (This includes: FAFSA, WASFA, Workforce Funding Programs, employer subsidies, scholarships, emergency funds, and more.)
  • Assist with Financial Aid Application workshops and timely reminders for important deadlines. 
  • Guide students with updating residency status and programs of study through Enrollment Services and Financial Aid to qualify for funding and enrollment.

Program Outreach/Partnerships

  • Provide information to students, employees, and the community regarding I-BEST pathways and eligibility, and share information about ELA, and College and Career Prep classes as relevant.
  • Strengthen and maintain relationships with internal and external campus partners to facilitate program coordination, information exchange, and the expansion of partnerships.
  • Coordinate quarterly classroom presentations with faculty, and attend special community events to reach new and prospective students to provide information about I-BEST pathways and how to transition to a college degree and certificate programs.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources within the college and greater community


Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with the standards, mission, values, and goals of Edmonds College. 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree OR equivalent combination of relevant and educational work experience. 
  • At least one year of professional experience providing student support services, educational planning, student advising, and/or case management services to adult learners from historically marginalized populations, particularly non-native speakers of English, immigrant populations, low income, and/or first-generation students
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and completeness while managing multiple tasks, projects and deadlines
  • Proven ability to foster student accountability by establishing clear expectations, providing timely feedback, and communicating consequences and next steps effectively
  • Proven capacity to efficiently synthesize information from multiple sources, retain critical details and apply new knowledge to practical situations.
  • Computer proficiency, specifically with Microsoft Office and Google Applications.  
  • Cultivate and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships in  a team-oriented environment


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Multilingual/Bilingual, preferably in a regionally top spoken language in addition to English (Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Arabic, Pashto)
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-racist advising, and program practices
  • Bachelors degree in Student Services, Social Work, Adult Education, Human Services, or related field
  • Strong work history connecting students/clients to community resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to market programs, recruit participants, and network with a wide range of campus and community stakeholders.  



PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in an office setting, and onsite/in-person. Work is generally stationary, sitting down with students or in front of the computer for most of the day.  Other physical activity includes walking to the lobby to greet students and standing for extended periods of time during orientations, workshops, or class presentations.  Occasional travel within the state may be required for advising-related conferences and meetings.


COMPENSATION:   

Salary is $57,588.81 - $63,247.09 and is based on the Edmonds College administrative/exempt salary schedule, plus a full state benefits package, which includes tuition waivers for college classes, medical, dental, retirement options, and more. The vacation and leave package includes 12 sick days per year, 11 scheduled holidays, 1 personal holiday, and 24 vacation leave days per year.
