I&C Engineer
Location: Shippingport, PA
Job Type: Contract with Potential for Hire
We are seeking a highly qualified Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer to support a major nuclear power project in Shippingport, PA. This position will be responsible for leading instrumentation and controls engineering and design activities, developing technical deliverables, supporting project execution, and collaborating with engineering, construction, and project teams.
Position Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct engineering work requiring independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Devise new approaches to problems encountered and provide solutions to unusual or complex technical challenges.
- Independently complete assigned projects with general direction regarding expected results.
- Lead the production of instrumentation engineering and design deliverables, including:
- Instrument Indexes
- Control system data sheets for DCS and/or PLC systems
- Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) data sheets
- I/O lists
- Process Control Narratives
- Other control system engineering and design deliverables
- Apply knowledge of commonly used I&C engineering and design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services industry.
- Perform engineering studies, prepare specifications, evaluate proposals, and develop cost estimates.
- Support the evaluation and recommendation of control system components and equipment for purchase.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers, designers, technicians, and other project personnel.
- Maintain current knowledge of innovative techniques, technologies, and practices within the instrumentation and controls engineering field.
- Prepare and provide technical training to other personnel, including internal team members and customers when appropriate.
- Supervise a small number of engineers or technicians on assigned work, as needed.
- Collaborate with project teams and customers to support successful engineering and design execution.
- Independently organize and prioritize work assignments while coordinating multiple tasks, competing priorities, and deadlines.
- Work in both office and field environments as required by the project.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
- 6–10+ years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering.
- Strong background in instrumentation and control systems engineering and design.
- Training and experience with distributed control systems such as:
- ABB
- Emerson Ovation
- Siemens T3000
- Mark VIe
- Client MicroNet
- Knowledge of control systems associated with gas boilers and turbines.
- Working knowledge of engineering methods, practices, and applicable codes and standards within areas of responsibility.
- Proficiency with engineering and computer software, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, 2D and/or 3D CAD applications, Bluebeam, Revit, Navisworks, or similar tools.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a collaborative, transparent, and team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Willingness to travel and work in both office and field environments.
- Understanding of and commitment to following company policies, procedures, business objectives, and project goals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting power generation, industrial, or nuclear projects.
- Experience with DCS, PLC, instrumentation, and control system design and implementation.
- Experience developing engineering specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, and supporting equipment procurement.
- Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring, or training to engineering and technical personnel.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus, where applicable.
