Description

FULL-TIME, NON-EXEMPT). This is a semi-skilled, full time non-exempt position under the direct supervision of the Collections Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and or I&I Crew Leader. The Collections I&I Maintenance Worker 2 performs journey-level maintenance, repair, inspection, and data collection duties related to the Citys sanitary sewer system. The position is responsible for both maintaining infrastructure and assisting with detection and reduction of inflow and infiltration (I&I) through monitoring, testing, maintenance and data collection. This position is required to be on call periodically throughout the year.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist with the installation, calibration, and maintenance of flow monitors, rain gauges, and pressure recorders.
  • Participate in smoke and dye testing operations to detect cross-connections and illicit discharges.
  • Conduct field inspections of sewer infrastructure including manholes and aerial crossings.
  • Assist with confined space entries as part of I&I investigations and inspections.
  • Support basic troubleshooting and minor repairs of monitoring equipment.
  • Use GPS and mobile devices to document field activity and location data.
  • Assist with data input into spreadsheets and reporting tools for project tracking and analysis.
  • Performs maintenance, cleaning and repair duties related to the City's sewer collection system.
  • Use GPS and mobile devices to document field activity and location data.
  • Cleans and rods sewer mains and laterals to remove debris from inside pipe. Vacuums debris from lift stations and related structures.
  • Performs trenching, shoring, and backfilling.
  • Inspects sewage lift stations on a scheduled basis; reads and records flow meters and gauges; learns to perform servicing and repair of pumps, motors, valves and other mechanical and electrical equipment, including pulling and de-ragging pumps.
  • Participates and Removes weeds and debris from lift stations, sewer easements, grounds, and outfall lines.
  • Assist staff in the CCTV of underground sewer lines and sewer laterals.
  • light, medium and heavy equipment related to the maintenance and repair of the City's sewer collection system.
  • Identifies major problems with pipes including cracks, damage, holes, and collapsed pipe
  • Tests sewer systems for faulty connections or leaks as well as for illegal connections.
  • Operates specialized vehicles.
  • Sets traffic control including safety devices, signs, and barricades; ensures safety of public and work crew.
  • Provides courteous customer service responding to questions and inquiries from the general public; responds to customer problems or issues and facility repair.
  • Contacts the public to inform them of activities and shutdowns; explains applicable rules and regulations

  • Maintains records of basic operations, maintenance and work performed.
  • Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Tennessee Drivers' License required.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience.
  • Grade II Wastewater Collection System Certificate issued by the Tennessee Department Environment and Conservation (TDEC) is desirable.
